the room was quiet other than the tapping of her fingers against the dim phone screen and the ticking of the clock above the doorway, but even those was barely audible. she lay across the sofa casually, an old american love song flowing through her headphones as she hummed along. she’d been thinking a lot about love lately: her parents were still head over heels for one another, there were rumors that others in the company were in love with each other and thousands of others had felt that very same electricity in their hearts. she just wondered when it would happen to her.
“have you ever been in love?”. eunah took the headphones off from her head to listen to the elders response, lips parted in expectation. would he say yes? would she get an interesting story out of this? she just hoped it would be something positive, she wasn’t in the mood for a sad story.
It wasn’t all too often that they got to have date nights. Not real ones, anyway. Mostly just simple dinners on the way to bed, maybe a movie if they were lucky. They both lived in dorms, so it wasn’t easy to have much privacy outside of the bedroom. But Sora tried not to dwell on that too much, because when she did, it sucked all the happiness out of her. Made her angry. They’d signed away their full privacy, she never denied that, but it wasn’t right that they had absolutely no alone time. She loved her job, but it was heartbreaking that they couldn’t even be seen together in public. Of course there were ways around it, but they’d agreed that neither of them were interested in pretending they were anything but in love, even if it meant spending time together out in the open. It’d never even crossed her mind to act like they were just friends in order to evade suspicion from Eyedol or any of the other parasites passing for news journalists. She was never a fan of tabloids.
Which is why it was a surprise when she got a call from Kyu, telling her to dress up and come over for dinner. Not that there was any arguing or questioning or second guessing. She was just happy to be spending time alone with him. The dreams of one day being able to move in together and be a normal couple kept her going on the hard days; the thought of having a family with the love of her life made her not want to give up when she was really about to. So she found one of her favorite dresses, one she didn’t get to wear outside of events, and made sure she looked as good as she possibly could. Time was dragging on and it was making her lose her mind, but finally, she deemed it a decent enough time to head over. It wasn’t a long drive, so in just a few minutes that seemed to be more like hours, she parked and walked to the door, knocking gently.
