Since I started this species exploration... thing-y, I knew I wanted to divide the water horses into two categories. Partially because I am still mad that the show made hippocampus and hippogriffin the same species for some reason, and partially because I know that there are "sirens" in the Equestria Girl episode/movie (might even be working on their designs too 👀). So, I took inspiration from mythology (as it is a surprise to no one) and used the hippocampus from greek and roman myths and the kelpie from celtic and norse myths, but I gave them my own lil spin off
So I’m making an MLP:FIM oc (idk why I am but I am ig) and his mini backstory is that he moved to Ponyville so he could be himself, at first this was referring to him being transmasc/nonbinary, but than I thought of something even better: They were born an Earth Pony but transition to a unicorn via a magic spell similar to the one that give Rarity butterfly wings in that one episode. They would have transitioned to an alicorn but that’s illegal for obvious reasons. Transphobia doesn’t exists in Equestria, but discrimination against trans-unicorns and trans-Pegasi does (trans-Earth Ponies aren’t really talked about as much as the other two but just as discriminated against).
Rewriting the crystal ponies was the most fun thing I've done. Not only is the idea of animals with crystals on their bodies a cool concept, but it is also because my friend @sananaryon provided me with a wealth of extra information regarding the Crystal Empire (part of which comes from the comics, while most of it comes from theories and ideas she had).
The crystal ponies might also have some connections to the changelings because of what Sombra did to Queen Amore in the comics.
While I was working on my redesigns of MLP characters, I kept talking with my friends about the different species in this franchise (both the show and the comics).
And because I hate myself, I guess, I started taking notes so that I could draw each species in different ways until it turned into... whatever this is.
These are just about the three main ponies plus bat ponies because I thought they could use some extra lore to them, but I have at least 6 more that are either finished or just about finished.
You can use these however you like. You can read them just for interest, use them for reference, or do whatever else you like.
For someone who's very afraid of bugs, I had a lot of fun designing and rewriting the changelings.
I did have to ask my friend to look up information about different bugs for me so I wouldn't be jumpscared by bug pictures, but it's fine.
I honestly have 2 more species locked and loaded. I'm thinking of posting the Crystal Ponies next because I cooked with that one
I was trying to math out how many years mlp fim actually takes place over, because I am far too invested in things the writers definitely weren't thinking about, just by flicking through the episode order of each season and jotting down where important reoccurring seasons or holidays were prominently featured and why are is all the solid timeline information in episode 11's, 15's or 17's???
s1's episode 11 is winter wrap up, s2's is hearth's warming, s7's is that one Yak holiday (which would have been more helpful if it ever came up again), and s9's is spring break.
episodes 15s get a cider season (s2) (again not reoccurring enough to help), a nightmare night (s5), and another hearth's warming (s8)
s2's episode 17 is hearts and hooves day, s5's is a sisterhooves social, and s9's is a summer solstice
best I can figure, the show takes place across somewhere around 6 years, at least. Maybe more than that. also the sisterhooves social appears to be a late fall/early winter holiday taking place after both the running of the leaves and nightmare night, which is pretty interesting and not what I expected! Probably missed a bunch of stuff, but throwing my list under the cut if anyone's interested
Anyone have ideas on how saddles and other riding tack can be converted to mlp? Racing stockings are basically compression garments I think, but what about bridles, saddles, and etc? I just had a vision that saddles could be supportive garments like corsets (horsets if you will /j), with maybe some special flight ones to help pegasi glide for long periods of time, as well as medical ones for spinal issues and some just for fashion. I can only see bridles being used in the bedroom tho
