It wasn't Mateo's plan to get into a fight the second he walked into his dorm, but it's not exactly surprising it's going in that direction. Exy's a violent sport, the Foxes are a team of people with issues so bad that no one else wants to touch them, so it's just simple math here.
Mateo knows a challenge when he sees one when Grant grabs his stupidly expensive headphones that he doesn't actually give a shit about. In the back of his head, he recognizes how childish this is, and how the smart thing to do here is to be the bigger person and just let it go, but Mateo isn't the bigger person--mentally or physically.
The last thing he wants to do is to give off the impression that he makes empty threats. He warned Grant not to touch his shit, and he'll fucking follow through, even if it means starting to season off with a broken broken bone.
Gritting his teeth, Mateo glares up at Grant and spits out, "fine." Using all his strength, he attempts to shove Grant, pushing at his chest.
If any of their roommates decided to join them right now, it'd probably look pretty comical from their point of view with their height difference, but that's never stopped Mateo before. If he stopped and considered his height before every fight then he'd be a pacifist.
