Disclaimer: I am picking and choosing what bits of Mass Effect lore I like to make this character a multifandom OC. Therefore the information in this post may not fully match lore from the Mass Effect games. If you are looking to interact with a canon compliant Mass Effect OC this character is NOT the character for you.
Caden is a war veteran, an ambassador representing the planet Palaven, and an anti war activist. As both a war veteran and a former prisoner of war, he is passionate about resolving worldwide and intergalactic conflicts peacefully. Caden retired from the Turian military due to injury and ethical concerns. His time as a prisoner of war resulted in permanent burn, knife, and bullet wound scars across fifty percent of his body, including half of his face. He also has a prosthetic leg and is now visually impaired in his left eye.
Caden fought in two wars, one a conflict located solely on Palaven and the other an interplanetary war. The first war he fought in was directly connected to the murder of Palaven's Planetary Prime Minister Viriana Tibus. Although originally framed as a hit paid for by Viriana's jealous ex wife, it was later revealed that Viriana's own sister, Senria, paid for her to be killed in the hopes of being more easily elected as Planetary Prime Minister in the upcoming election. The interim Planetary Prime Minister, Maxitus Elgari, sentenced Senria to death for the hired hit on her sister. However, by that point she had amassed thousands of supporters, resulting in a planet wide civil war.
In an attempt to protect the life of his older brother, Riven, who was drafted into the Turian military to capture and kill Senria despite having narcolepsy, Caden took his brother's place. By changing their personal documents to make it appear as though their ages were swapped, Riven appeared to be thirteen while Caden appeared to be fifteen. Fifteen is the minimum age to be drafted into the Turian military. The only reason Caden did not try to forge Riven's documents to make him ineligible for the draft was because the interim Planetary Prime Minister was incredibly ableist and would only accept Turians who were too young/ small, or too old, as being exempt from service in this civil war. The civil war lasted for five years and, ironically, ended on Caden's 18 birthday.
Peace lasted only a year. At age 19, Caden was drafted into another war, this time an interplanetary conflict. This war was fought over ancient technology that multiple species wanted to study and replicate for their own gain. Such technology involved things like high speed inter solar system vehicles, advanced medical tools, and weapons.
While fighting over these high tech ancient weapons, it was discovered that some of their creators were still alive. These creators were known as the Protheans. Captured and tortured by Protheans alongside multiple species he had originally been tasked with fighting, Caden had no choice but to form new alliances to escape imprisonment alive. It was the Protheans who burned him, cut him, and amputated one of his legs without his consent. With the Protheans seeking to capture and enslave or kill all sentient life and colonize planets as they destroyed/polluted their original home, the galaxy banded together to locate, capture, and arrest all hostile Protheans. Like any planet or species, the Protheans did have anti-war advocates, and those individuals were carefully integrated into intergalactic society. This war lasted for ten years, ending when Caden turned 29.
In the wake of the newfound Prothean threat, an interplanetary treaty was drafted for all involved parties. A part of the treaty led to the creation of the Intergalactic Peace Council, a council dedicated to resolving all conflicts peacefully and without unnecessary violence. Each planet within the solar system must elect an ambassador to serve on the Intergalactic Peace Council. Much to Caden's surprise, after sharing his story as a means of explaining his interest and passion for wanting to be the Turian ambassador, he won the seat in a landslide, becoming the first Turian ambassador elected to the council. Although reelections occur every four years, no one has managed to get enough votes to replace Caden.
ADDITIONAL HELPFUL FACTS
Turians have Prime MInisters for each country on the planet, as well as a Panetary Prime Minister who ranks above all of the other prime ministers
Turians cis females are often taller than their cis male counter parts, with them being 7ft tall while their cis male counterparts are usually 6ft tall
Caden is AFAB and is 6'3"
Although retiring from the military and having his fair share of injuries Caden is still more than capable of defending himself and others
Turian exoskeletons/plating are not bulletproof. They are resistant to scratches, however. It takes a lot of force to cut into a Turian's exoskeleton.
The Turian language sounds like a series of clicks and chirps.
Turians, when happy can emit a low rumble that sounds like a trill or purr
He is most easily used on Marvel/DC and scifi settings. I'm always open to plotting and would love to use this oc with you!
