After talking about the scene with Dennis and the one with Cavendish discovering the island, have yet another list of things that still absolutely kill me when thinking of one moment of this show. This time it’s the scene from the PnF crossover, when Dakota is about to get crushed by a pistachion and Cavendish puts himself in front of him to protect him.
The things that destroy me in this moment :
- How quick Cavendish is to put himself in harm’s way to protect Dakota. It’s like he doesn’t even hesitate. He just sees Dakota in danger and goes “must protect”.
- The dark implications of Cav’s action when you combine the fact that this man has low self-esteem with the fact that he just learned how much of a great person Dakota is for him by protecting him all the time. It’s like he wanted to prove Dakota that he can protect him too, even if it means losing his own life.
- The fact that Dakota is completely frozen in place when seeing the pistachion and the one thing that makes him move out of the way is Cavendish being in danger instead of him. Cavendish’s action made Dakota panic to the point of being able to break out from his “frozen state”.
- Dakota SCREAMING IN PANIC when Cavendish puts himself in front of him.
- Dakota immediately starting to scold Cavendish afterwards while dragging him out of danger.
- The fact that Dakota says “I can’t un-die you” while Cavendish replies “If you get hurt”. Two possibilities here : 1. Cavendish would be willing to go back in time if Dakota were to get badly hurt. 2. Cavendish can’t even bear the thought of Dakota dying and so refers to it as “getting hurt” instead (probably the most likely possibility ?).
- The implications that Cavendish would be more than willing to go back in time to protect/save Dakota, especially given how he replies to Dakota immediately and with no hesitation.
- On a lighter note : Orton saying “That was touching”. Like, just this guy from the 60s seeing these two and being like “you guys are cute”, only to picture them as brothers in his TV show. Just…get yourself a gaydar Orton.
