November Mid Monthly Report 2023

Hello hello, everyone!

I have returned (albeit late again) with another report! This month's going to be a short one as I don't have much to report on.

So without further ado, let's begin!

Project Progress

I am much farther behind than I would like to be for editing. Life stuff happened and that always needs to be addressed first before I can work on personal projects.

Regardless, I have made some good progress this last week! I've finished the Pre-Log and have begun Act 1. I think from now on, I'm gonna make myself write a little bit everyday, that way I can get back on track and get this draft finished by February.

As for the book illustrations, I'm not that far behind either. I've kept myself at my word and work on the thumbnails right after finishing a chapter. Hopefully either in the next report and in January's, I can show some more off for y'all!

Goals

I'm adjusting my long term goals for this draft to reflect my change in schedule:

Long Term Goals:

Complete Draft 2 editing by the end of February

Complete book thumbnails by March MMR

November Goals:

Finish Act 1 editing by December 20th

Finish Act 1 thumbnails by January 2nd

Work on New Years illustration; be completed by December 28th

September End-of-the-Month Report

Hello hello everyone! It’s that time of the month again, but accidentally posted at the end of the month ^^; Everything's fine, I've just been busy with work and traveling that the report for September slipped my mind.

We’ve got a short report this month, so without further ado, let’s begin!

Project Progress:

So good news! I have begun editing! I’m about four chapters in, and now that my schedule has cleared up, I’ll have more time to work on edits.

Currently, my goal is to have editing done by the end of December. I’m not entirely sure yet if I’ll reach that goal because I also have to make the sketches of the book illustrations.

There are roughly 35 chapters in Project : Desert, each ranging between 1000 and 2000~ words, with most having an illustration of some kind. We’ll see if my end date of December is feasible or not.

I’m not sure how many illustrations I’ll be posting in these next few months since my priorities are elsewhere, so for the time being, here’s one of the sketches for the book:

This illustration will appear in the very first chapter of the novella. Once we're past the beta reading stage, then we can start lining it!

Begin editing Draft 2; be finished by December

Work on in-book illustrations; be finished by December

August Mid Month Report 2023

Hello hello, everyone!

It's that time of the month, and I've got something exciting to share with y'all!

Project Progress

After nearly a year's work, Draft 2 of An Immortal Laid to Rest is finally complete.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I'm just! We're here! We did it! Holy shit!

Now the next step is editing and finishing the sketches of the book illustrations. I've decided I'm going to take a couple of months to do these items so I can give them the proper time they deserve. That and also I don't have as much time as I used to.

Regardless, I'm super stoked I've made it to this point. There's still a lot to do, but we're getting ever closer to a finished story!

Goals

Here were my goals from July:

Write 3 chapters by August 15th [done]

Finish Draft 3 by end of August [done; though i meant draft 2]

Begin catching up on storyboards [in progress]

Start new short-term project [on hold until post-editing]

August Goals:

Begin editing Draft 2; be finished by December

Work on in-book illustrations (work on chpt illustration after edited chapter); be finished by December

July 2023 Mid Monthly Report

Hello hello everyone, and happy 3rd anniversary to not only An Immortal Laid to Rest, but also to the Mid Monthly Report! Three years already... can you imagine? I still think it's crazy that this all began from a short story I wrote. And now we're closing in on Draft 2's finale.

Project Progress

As of now, I am roughly three chapters away from finishing Draft 2 of An Immortal Laid to Rest. Look how far we've come!

I'm hoping to have these last couple chapters finished by mid-to-late August, then spend a month or so making edits and finishing the storyboards for the in-book illustrations. Should everything go to plan, I'm hoping to have Draft 2 ready for beta readers in October. I'll have more info for how the beta process will go and what I'm looking for from betas when the time comes.

In the meantime, I've got a new thing in the works that I hope you'll look forward to seeing soon :^)

Goals

June 2023 Mid Monthly Report

Hello hello, everyone! Back again with a short report as we get closer to Project : Desert's anniversary.

So without further ado, let's begin.

Project Progress

Act 3

I have finished outlining Act 3 for my second draft, so I'm ready to begin writing again.

I will say though, Act 3 is going to be a lot shorter than the previous Acts

I'm not worries, however. Character arcs are wrapping up and the plot has stayed its welcome. We're closing in on the end, and I look forward to seeing Draft 2 completed.

Anniversary

June 28th marks the third anniversary of An Immortal Laid to Rest. It's going to be close, but I think i can finish the anniversary art done in time. If not, then we just celebrate a little later.

I'm currently working on the lineart, so I'd figure I'd give you a little sneak peak of what I have so far.

Goals

Here are my goals from May:

Have Act 3 outlined by June 15th [done]

Have 3rd Anniversary Illustration done by June 22nd [we're going to see]

Have concepts done for Lachesis and Atropos by May 31st [done]

December 2023 Year in Review

To herald the coming new year, I thought it appropriate to go over some of our achievements from the last year and see how far we've come in the development of An Immortal Laid to Rest.

Year in Review

Now, when I was writing this, I was taking into account milestones that were completed during my tumblr hiatus last year. This will be more of a year-and-a-half in review, but I still find it important to have these accomplishments written out.

So let's take a look at them, shall we?

June 28th 2022 — Project : Desert 2nd Anniversary July 1st 2022 — Begin Art Nouveau Series July 15th 2022 — Mid Monthly Report 2nd Anniversary July 27th 2022— Vinnie Art Nouveau painting completed. August 20th 2022— Orias Art Nouveau painting completed. August 28th 2022 — Draft 1 completed. December 23rd 2022 — Completion of Draft 2, Act 1 January 1st 2023 — Begun Draft 2, Act 2 February 22nd 2023— Clotho concept art completed May 18th 2023 — Completion of Act 2 May 29th 2023 — Lachesis concept art completed June 4th 2023 — Atropos concept art completed June 28th 2023 — Project : Desert 3rd Anniversary

July 5th 2023 — Begun Draft 2, Act 3 July 15th 2023 — Mid Monthly Report 3rd Anniversary

August 9th 2023 — Completion of Act 3 August 10th 2023 — Completion of Draft 2’s entirety September 9th 2023 — Begun Draft 3, Pre-Log November 20th 2023 — Completion of Pre-log; Begun Draft 3, Act 1

It took: 379 days / 12 months and 14 days to complete Draft 0. 375 days / 12 months, 10 days to complete Draft 1. 332 days / 10 months, 29 days to complete Draft 2. We are currently 107 days/ 3 months, 16 days into the writing of Draft 3.

It has been 1275 days/ 3 years, 5 months, 27 days since Project : Desert began.

Reflection

Seeing accomplishments laid out like this puts into perspective how much I've managed to do in the last three and a half years. From a short story in a zine to a novella in the making— I guess I'm just proud of making it this far.

But most of all, it tells how I need to be a lot easier on myself. I tend to get caught up in my work and berate myself for not working hard enough. In the moment, I can't see the work that has been done and how it adds up to the final product.

With that thought in mind, it's with a heavy heart to say I won't be doing the Mid Monthly Report anymore. What started as a way for me to see how much art and writing I managed to do in the span of a month has evolved into deadlines of work that hasn't been done; work that's fallen behind. And it's hard to keep up with on top writing and just generally life.

I don't think MMRs will be gone forever. I plan to start utilizing quarterly reports to keep y'all in the loop of what's happening. But for the time being, this will be the last proper Mid Monthly Report for awhile.

It's been a good time, y'all and I'm incredibly thankful to have y'all be on this journey with me.

May 2023 Mid Monthly Report

It's been awhile. I meant to post a report in April, but it was finals season for me and I didn't have much to report on, so I decided to wait and post a report for May. So here I am!

Project Progress

I have finally finished Act 2 for An Immortal Laid to Rest.

God, this part took forever. I was juggling three CS classes this semester, so I had less time than I thought to dedicate to writing. With that said, I'm glad to finally have that under my belt and moving onto to Act 3.

This month I'm planning to do a thorough outline for Act 3. I remember having trouble with Act when I did my first draft, but I'm confident I can get through it smoothly this time. I'm really looking forward to it--it marks the coming end of my second draft and approach of this story's true fruition. And also a lot of shit goes down in this Act, so lord knows I'm ready to write the disaster.

Along side outlining, I'll be working on the 3rd Anniversary illustration for Project : Desert. This is probably going to be the biggest illustration I've done for the project at this time. So it's a bit daunting, but I'm ready for it. I hope you'll look forward to it :^)

Goals

Complete Chpt 23, 24, & 25 by April 15th [done]

Work on storyboards for Chpt 13, 14, & 16 by April 15th [:"""^)]

March 2023 Mid Monthly Report

Project Progress

New Art!

It's art time, it's art time!

So I posted a couple sketches a couple of weeks ago of the Shrine spirits Vinnie meets throughout the story, and today I'm here to show you the finished ref for one of them!

Clotho is doneeeee!! I think she turned out very pretty.

I decided to approach my concept refs differently to try to speed the process up. Instead of doing full line art with flats, I found that it's faster to just clean the sketch up and paint it with my watercolor brush. It's messier, but prettier I think.

Lachesis and Atropos are the next refs I'm doing. While I work on that, have some sketches of the of the older sisters to remind you what they look like.

Goals

Here were my goals from last month:

Finish Act 2 by next report (March 18th) [I am so close to being done grrrr]

Work on storyboards for Chpt 3, 5, & 7 [done]

Complete Clotho’s concept art [done]

Have a video posted for Youtube channel by next report (March 18th) [Working on a speedpaint and planning a new video poem]

March Goals:

Complete Chpt 23, 24, & 25 by April 15th

Work on storyboards for Chpt 13, 14, & 16 by April 15th

Finish speedpaint and post it before April 15th

That's all I've got this month! I can't guarantee I will report on time next month because of finals, but I will do my best.
