Let's Eat: Cafe Latte Grand Ave

If you consider yourself a cheesecake lover & have never had a slice from Cafe Latte on Grand Ave, stop reading this and go now! Each layer is handmade, you can see the flecks of vanilla bean swirled into the creamy cream cheese layer. The crust is not you're typical graham cracker base. Let's eat: Candy Land - Day oh love 2015

Day oh Love 2015 or what consumers call Valentine ’s Day is right around the corner. Instead of running to Walgreens and picking up a box of Russell Stover, why not drive into downtown Saint Paul or Minneapolis and pick up something unique and delish from the iconic Candyland. I should add that you cannot claim to be a true resident of Saint Paul unless you’ve stopped in at least once in your life!

I have fond memories of this location, ever since my mom would take my sisters and I downtown after choir practice. 30 years later the scent of sweet confectionary dreams, buttery popcorn, chocolate and caramel swirls still flow through the air!

I’ve never been disappointed when stopping into Candyland, there is something for everyone!

Honestly, nowadays where can you get a dollars’ worth of Gummi Cola’s, Butterflies, Minty Meltaways, Cinnamon Dots, Honey Roasted Almonds these days! Chocolate Covered Gummi Bears (nothing beats these), Chocolate Dipped Chippos (the most delicious thick potato chip concealed by a milk chocolate coating, each bite has just the right amount of salty chip and the chocolate just melts as you take another bite) hand dipped caramel apples or my absolute favorite Caramello (OK, I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing these caramel dipped marshmallows are! My mouth does a happy dance with each bite! Then it’s gone, but I always make sure to buy two so I can dance all over again! Oh and don’t even get me started on the popcorn, you have your Classic Plain (I recommend with butter… let me add it’s not like movie theatre butter… it’s the magical elixir of the butter gods) Caramel which is fantastic to mix in with the plain and we cannot forget the Chicago mix popcorn ( Plain, Caramel AND Cheese) this blows the fake mix that you can buy from the gas station out of the water! This corn will give you a new appreciation.

For the record, I’m not a crazy candy lady. I usually prefer a gummi candy over a chocolate candy; however, ALL BETS ARE OFF when it comes to making the trip downtown. I mean come on; we only live one life, so why not enjoy as many bites as possible!

Candyland is your one stop shop, whether you’re picking up a treat for yourself just because you deserve it or for someone you love. Nothing beats a Candyland smile.

Rumor has it that the hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries come out on Feb 12th, 13th and 14th!
