❛ tho' you are so far away , you are e'er endeared to my heart . bon anniversaire . yr obt svt . ❜ a parcel , wrapped in gilt & imperial blue . within is a set of pistols , illustriously appointed , with side - plating of engraved gold . he had them dispatched to the general months prior , & would be overjoyed to learn of their timely arrival .

   he settles down at his desk on this fine new york morning; old bones aching as he acknowledges the servant who delivered the package to him with a nod. it was fairly large, with beautiful blue wrapping. on top, a piece of parchment, with the marquis’ familiar handwriting on it. he picks up the note, and a smile appears upon lips. his heart swells with excitement then, and just a touch of fondness for the young man. in a short time, he has the wrapping stripped from the package, in shrouds around it as he gently lifts one of the pistols from the box. a gasp is emitted, he never would have expected something like this from his dear friend. the gesture brought tears to his eyes. for, gazing upon this extravagant gift and the writing upon the page, his mind wandered back to the war, when the young du motier was here, with him. instead of across the sea, where he surely belonged. 

  as soon as he relieved himself from the memory-induced fog, he set down the pistol back in its place and set the box and wrapping aside. fetching a fresh piece of parchment and inking his quill thoroughly, he began to pen back a letter to the young man; a smile upon the good President’s lips for the first time in a fortnight. 

   ‘My dear Lafayette, it is with great pleasure and surprise that I receive your wonderful gift. I shall definitely be sure to put them to good use as soon as possible. I admit, I do miss your company most ardently, as of late. It is not the same without your smile or your disposition a few feet away. You did not have to indulge me in this way, but then again, I suppose you were never one to shy away from such things, were you? 

  Still, my dear boy, I appreciate everything you have done for me, in the war and in this current time. You are forever etched into my mind and heart; I do not think I could ever forget you.

ahhh i LOVE that tattoo idea!! omg i want my next one to be cap inspired too. Im thinking “sometimes you have to believe that heroes exist” with his shield incorporated somehow. on another note, i too have a tattoo with flowers inspired from shawns album. Love that guy
