while jaeseong was more than happy to call jiyeon his girlfriend, he was still trying to get used to the yearning that he'd frequently get for her. it was the same yearning that caused him to want to take the next step of an actual relationship with her, as opposed to his normal flings he'd been notorious of for years now. he felt today's in particular was from the tone in her texts over the course of the day, so when he finally met up with her for dinner there was worry laced in his features. "what's wrong, babe?" the man asked, opting to cut to the chase instead of beating around the bush. "i know you, don't lie to me."

jongin only realizes he is no longer alone in the hallway when he has to stop abruptly, the key still suspended between his fingers, his body reacting before his mind can catch up. the space in front of him is occupied by someone he recognizes without understanding how, as if memory has reached her before his eyes have. there is something deeply wrong about that familiarity, something that should not exist after so many years, after a move made in haste, after boxes were sealed before he even understood what he was losing. the realization settles heavily in his chest, bringing with it images he has not revisted in years? the school yard, the sweetness of a nervous kiss, the silent promise of a next day that never came.

there is something almost cruel about her being there now, right there, across the hallway, as if time itself had folded just to test him. jongin feels the childish urge to find something to say, anything that might explain the disappearance, that might give shape to the emptiness left by an absence without a goodbye, but he understands that no explanation fits this moment. all that exists is the weight of recognition and the uncomfortable awareness that some stories do not end when they are interrupted, they simply wait. he remains still for longer than he should, noticing details he does not know if he has the right to notice, until his lips form into the charming smile known as his trademark. it's easy on his lips, makes his features soften and spark. “ miyoung? ” asks gently. “ do you remember me? i'm jongin from fourth grade. ”

     “ it's part of the gig, you know this. ”  another discussion of him being away for tours with the band, understanding the toll it probably made on the other but, roan had worked hard toward this success and couldn't turn down any opportunities  —-  even if it tore at his heart seeing the other this bummed out about it all.

contrary to his new life, junseo still isn't used to being stabbed. it's just a flesh wound, nowhere near as bad as the time jitae stabbed him, but that doesn't mean it doesn't fucking hurt. what's worse is he hadn't seen it coming. hadn't finished it, either. god, he's never going to hear the end of it when minchul finds out. he'd staggered his way to a nearby nightclub and talked his way inside, stealing a powerbank from some random girl's bag and slinking into one of the empty private rooms to try and charge his phone enough to call for help. the powerbank, though, turns out to be useless. the charging symbol flashes up on his screen for a few hopeful seconds, before flashing off again as the powerbank also dies. fuck. the bleeding doesn't seem to be slowing down, either, which is making him start to worry. his head snaps up when he hears the door open, and he speaks before the other has a chance to. ❝ don't react. and don't tell anyone i'm here. ❞ a pause as he looks down at his dead phone again. ❝ you have a phone charger? ❞

if she hadn't been going on just a few hours of sleep, min would have thought to stick a shoe in the door frame as she ran out to get her package. she wasn't completely familiar with having to use a key, her past lock being an easier one with a code, and so when she tried opening the door to find it was locked her heart sank in her chest. the femme tried it for a few extended minutes before ultimately braving the rain to run to her neighbor's. bedazzled lab coat and sequined goggles sat atop her head both now drenched, min knocked a few times on her neighbor's door - praying they were home.
