Black broadcloth "octopus" bag with beaded worsted yarn tassels and four metal buttons. The bag is backed with dark olive cloth. Long beadwork bands create fringe on the bottom edge. The bag is from Crow Wing, Minnesota, and was reportedly owned by Ojibwe Chief Bug-o-na-ghe-zhisk (Hole-in-the-Day, 1828 - 1868). The bag probably originated among the western Cree or southern Dene peoples of the Canadian subarctic. ca. 1825-1900.
