One more day until I finally reach the continent. Despite everything else relatively cheaper than Tahiti, I see that the bottled water is indeed imported from Tahiti, which makes the ultimate necessity agua being sold at unreasonable price. There are hardly any mountains on this island, nor springs, in which case I suppose it’s reasonable to charge for bathrooms. Being about equidistant between Tahiti & the mainland, food supply situation is even worse than in Tahiti, there are hardly anything one would expect on the shelves of supermarket. I would have really appreciated the dairy products shipped all the way from France, had I travelled in the opposite direction, reaching Bora Bora after Ile de Paques. Met a few Japanese folks today on the tour around the island. Moving from New Zealand to the other end of Polynesia, the frequency of hearing German & Chinese has drastically reduced. I also noticed that foreign travelers tend to reach here on a long journey, most making two stopovers, as the only flights served via Santiago or Tahiti. Feel lucky to be here on a rather convenient stop on my way across the Pacific. (at Rano Raraku)
