Bruised knuckles and aching bones were a side-effect of the life that Benjy Fenwick led.
Even now, all these years after taking up the mantle of head of the family with other people to do the dirty work for him, his bones still ached. Perhaps it was a side effect of the three hours of boxing training this morning, or perhaps merely a side effect of taking on a role he sometimes felt far too young for. He’d never admit it, not even to Alex, but in the privacy of his own room Benjy sometimes wondered if he’d bitten off more than he could chew.
Being the head of the family meant that Benjy often didn’t get time to himself, and so he tried to make time to do the things that he wanted. It was never structured, more of a case of fitting things in when he could. And so it came to be that on this fateful Wednesday morning, Benjy Fenwick found himself at his favourite book store in Covent Garden. One of his hobbies was filling the library back at the house, and this store always had some rarer editions at the back - along with comic books.
Sirius had insisted on joining him, just in case (as if Benjy couldn’t take care of himself should trouble arise), but he was happy to continue meandering around the store while Benjy did whatever he was going to do. The stack of comic books in his hand for purchase was already reaching ridiculous levels when he headed towards the back of the store. Towering book cases full of older editions of books, thick tomes and hard-back books made for an atmosphere almost like no other bookstore in central London. He had a specific copy of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ in mind that he wanted to add to his collection.
Eyes scanning the shelves, he was lost in the search when someone tapped him on the shoulder. Almost instinctively his fingers twitched towards his gun. “What did you say to me?” Benjy asked, voice low and dark as he spun on his heel expecting to see a large muscled man. Instead he was faced with a tiny blonde woman, who’s eyes seemed to sparkle. His shoulders relaxed down and he waved Sirius off who had appeared in the corner of his eye. “Sorry Miss. What did you say?”
