While covering this year’s Mobile Fashion Week one of the collections I looked forward to seeing was Wisteria Way Designs. If you are not familiar with the Alabama based custom gown label then you definitely don’t want to miss this post.

Wisteria Way Designs was founded in January 2017 by designer Lacie Lindy Phillips. The brand focuses on offering custom gowns that are made from reclaimed elements and fabrics. The label consists of three branches: Wisteria Way Bridal, Wisteria Way Belles, & Wisteria Way Blooms. I had a chance to speak with Lacie after Wisteria Way Designs’ Mobile Fashion Week debut and here’s what she had to say.

“All of the gowns featured in my show were made with reclaimed elements except two which was partly reclaimed elements. So, my entire line helped to reduce fashion waste which is a huge issue in this industry! It’s not just about the textiles that end up in the landfills. It’s also about the water wasted to produce the materials and the resources wasted in manufacturing!”
Wisteria Way Designs effortlessly combines classical elements, timeless feel, and a bit of Southern charm perfectly crafted in one of a kind gowns. The label definitely has the exceptional woman in mind. All gowns seen on the runway will be available for purchase on their website. They are accepting Mardi Gras orders as well. Just make sure you mention it is a Mardi Gras gown when ordering. You can Wisteria Way Designs on their website, Facebook and Instagram.

What happens when you mix a night of Gulf Coast Fashion and Worthy Causes? If you are unsure of the right answer don’t worry you have come to the right place. Mobile Fashion Week 2018 recently took place and My Own Sense of Fashion was in attendance. Couldn’t attend this year? We have you covered. Keep reading to find out more.
The seventh annual Mobile Fashion Week took place this past weekend. This year’s venue was the historic The Fort of Colonial Mobile in the heart of Downtown Mobile. The night was designed to celebrate the latest fashion from local talent & come together for a worthy cause.
I had the pleasure of being one of the official bloggers of the evening for the second year. Here are some highlights from the evening.

Before showtime is a great time to shop, meet new people and of course mingle with fellow bloggers. Speaking of shopping there were several pop-ups where guests could purchase items from some of the brands of the night.
After everyone settled in their seats, the show began to. the return of a few fan favorites and some designers who made their Mobile Fashion Week debut this year. There were several collections to check out depending on your taste. While all of the designers did an amazing job, I did have a few collections that really captured my attention. Some of my favorites from the night would have to be Designs by Don Marie, William Bradley, Wisteria Way Designs, Mermania & Sarah Elise Terral.
However, there are some things to take into consideration before the next year’s show. I would take the heat into consideration when it comes to outside venues. While hand fans were passed out the heat was intense especially for those in the audience with health issues. Another thing to consider is having a designated area for the bloggers and time to speak with the designers before the show. Lastly, I would make sure that the venue is wheelchair accessible for guests. Other than that, I enjoyed the show & I always enjoy fashion for a great cause. Thank you again to the Mobile Fashion Week team for letting My Own Sense of Fashion be a part of this event again this year.

Over time History & Fashion have come together on several occasions. Whether it is memorable looks worn by historical figures or classic elements in modern fashion it isn’t hard to miss. While there are several examples to choose from, I want to focus on one closer to home. Follow along as I share a little more about The Fort of Colonial Mobile.

The Fort of Colonial Mobile was previously named Fort Condé in honor of Louis Henri de Bourbon, duc de Bourbon, and prince de Condé. The current Fort, spanning almost 1/3 of the original fort, was recreated at 4/5-scale on the site. The new Fort was opened on July 4, 1976, as part of Mobile’s celebration of the United States bicentennial.

Today the charming historic landmark is now available for event rentals for special occasions including fashion events. Speaking of fashion events, The Fort of Colonial Mobile just happens to be this year’s location of Mobile Fashion Week. The event not only showcases some of the finest talents on the Gulf Coast Fashion Scene but supports worthy causes such as Camp-A-Hope & Children With Hair Loss.
Of course, we support fashion for a cause so we will be reporting live with all the latest from the show. If you are in the area you can still purchase your tickets until September 21st. Mobile Fashion Week is happening on September 22nd. Purchase your tickets here.
