The IOS banned tags situation isnt resolved yet.
So we all know that now, Tumblr put forth a toggle/ filter thing so ios users can now search for some tags that were banned for being “sensitive” (Not related to adult content).Unfortunely, some of the banned tags deemed as “sensitive content” are still impacted for non ios users, which means : The issue I’m about to explain affects Android and Desktop users both.
For the record: The tags can still be looked up, they werent nuked, but if you click the #tag part of a post, instead of being redirected to the tagged page of the term, you are redirected to the main search, and it shouldnt be happening.
For exemple, if you look up the word “cat” on Desktop, and you click on the #cat part of a post, it will redirect you to
https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/cat?sort=recent
And then you can see how many people are following the tag.
However if you try to do the same thing with #suicide prevention, it redirect you to the main search instead and doesnt show you the tagged page, nor how many people follow it, like #cat does.
So if I try to search for the tagged page of the term suicide prevention, even by copypasting the link :
https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/suicide%20prevention
I’m redirected to the main search. No tagged page for this term.
This is the case for many horror related tags as well.
Users were able to overcome this issue with banned tags on mobile and access an alternative “tagged page” to filter out off topic posts by clicking the “tagged” part of the mobile search, like this :
....But because of the new mobile update, they removed the “tagged” category, so it looks like this now when you’re trying to reach the tagged page of a tag deemed “sensitive” via the new “tags” category while trying to avoid the forced redirect. It looks empty.
Related content still show up normally in the main search, but it absolutely sucks to filter out between posts that simply mentions the theme and post that are actually tagged after the topic. Heres how the redirect look like on mobile if you click #body horror before being redirected to the main search, for exemple :
So, yeah. This mobile update looking exactly like the web version makes it really difficult to look up such topics. I will be making a list containing all the tags that can no longer be seen in a “tagged only” fashion. I took this issue up to support. So we wait.
