Cheers, Mike!
Meet Ali Wallick - Software Engineer ll at MobilityWare!
How long have you worked for MobilityWare?
I’ve been at MobilityWare for just over a year, and I’m loving it!
How did you become a Software Engineer?
I’ve loved games since I was little, and when I realized that was a job option I knew immediately that’s what I wanted my career to be. I discovered the Computational Media program at Georgia Tech which focused on development of new media, and got to explore programming, art, and design. I discovered my love for programming in college, especially for front end development where I can combine the logic of programming and creativity of design.
What made you decide to work for MobilityWare?
I read about MobilityWare when I was looking for game companies local to Orange County. The great reviews, and high praise from former coworkers made me decide to apply. I love the idea of being able to work on games that reach such diverse demographics!
What's a typical day in the life of Ali while at MobilityWare?
As a programmer, I spent most of my day coding. I love being able to get in every day and work on challenges that make our games tick. My husband also works at MobilityWare so we get to get lunch together and enjoy the beautiful SoCal weather.
What are some of your favorite mobile games?
My favorite game is probably Blendoku. It’s like Sudoku mixed with color blending. Relaxing and challenging! I also love all the board games that are coming to mobile. I get to play some of my favorites like Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, and Castles of the Mad King Ludwig on the go.
Describe yourself in 3 words:
Friendly, adventurous, and passionate
What advice would you give folks looking to get into the gaming industry?
Network!! Go to local gaming meetups, meet people, and learn from them. I also highly recommend trying out a game jam like Global Game Jam. Whatever your skill level, there are people that would love to have your on your team since it’s a learning experience for everyone. And at the end of it you have a little game you can feel proud of!
What's your FAVORITE thing at MobilityWare?
The coworkers! Everyone here is wonderful, kind, and brilliant.
3 things on your bucketlist:
See the Aurora Borealis, visit Hobbiton in New Zealand, visit all the National Parks!
Movember was a huge success!!! GREAT job fellas!!!!!!
