This is my second pair of moccasins ever made. These were for the same little girl I made the fully beaded turtle moccs for, my niece, who is Tsalagi on her mother's side (my brother is German and Irish only, so she is not Diné like me). I decided to keep with the turtle theme for the winter, but obviously something a bit different. They're lined with pink and gold fleece and have a rabbit fur trim. I made them to be as warm as possible since we typically expect -20F here but the closest it's gotten is -10 and that was only for three days. It's only been in the mid 20s for the most part at night. What a weird winter.

Hey there! We have some news. Nearly 6 years ago, I opened up an Etsy store hoping a few people would like what I was making. Turns out, they did. We Kept making, kept growing. Right along with these two girlies. Opened up a storefront. Closed storefront. Sewed thousands of shoes. Met amazing customers who turned into friends. This last year, I have been in graduate school working on my teaching certificate & master’s. Then in spring, I accepted a position teaching special education at a local high school. I’m so beyond excited. Through all of this, BATB has been put in the back burner as I focused on school, students, and family. It has been an after thought. I don’t foresee that changing come fall when I’m working full time as a teacher. So, I’m closing shop. I need to put all that creative energy into learning and lessons. We’ll be closing things out the next couple weeks. A sample sale. Probably regular sale. I’ll also be listing leather and other craft accessories if that’s your jam. Thanks for a great 6 years. I’ve been so happy to see your kids grow up (some of which are now in KINDERGARTEN!!!!) Well hiiii! I took a bit of a social media detox, to take a step back. To say, “hey Shala, what are you doing? What’s the plan?” (I also needed to take the past two months and drown myself in grad school. But that is another post with a lot more crying emojis.) - The plan. I’ve decided... I’m not going to have a plan. Well, kind of. I’m not going to plan spring, summer, fall. I’m just going to make what I want, when I want. I’ve been making tiny shoes for over 5 years. I love it. But I also want to make other things. So I will. Because I can and I don’t have a boss telling me I can’t. I AM THE BOSS. With all that being said, there will have to be a few changes here at BATB. The biggest change? We will be moving to ready to ship (starting April 1st). I’ve been meaning to go the RTS route for YEARS. But I’m finally at a place where I’m just going to make it happen. - Who knows what BATB will look like at the end of the year? Maybe I’ll fall in love with make bags or bows or tiny animal leather sculptures? No one knows! But dang it, I really hope you stick around and find out. ( but also Don’t worry, I’ll still be slinging tiny shoes. They’ll always have my heart.)
