"I could have been wild, and I could have been free, but nature played its trick on me."

ALL SHE EVER DESIRED was freedom. Throughout her childhood — before the outbreak — she spends all her time in the outdoors. Climbing trees, collecting rocks, wading in rivers, all done while humming little tunes and songs. Not even the rain stopped her. Doing so on a large piece of farmland made it all the easier to do so. But her voice was especially important on the days she'd end up confined to her papa's house. She'd sing and sing and sing, unable to quit. Folk songs, her own melodies, whatever came to mind. She would spend her days as free as a mockingbird, spreading her song every place that her feet would tread.

But when the world goes to hell, she ends up in the hands of the Governor: a sick man who leaves her confined. A bird in a cage. While trapped inside the walls of Woodbury, she finds herself longing for the outdoors like nothing before. She misses the trees, the birds, the sounds of nature that would fill her ears on repeat. It all becomes lost to only a memory.

Until the prisoner group makes things spiral out of control. She watches from afar as the once quaint town grows angry and violent. She watches as everything is destroyed. And when Woodbury falls and Governor goes missing, she ends up alone once again.

On the road for the second time in her short life, she travels across Virginia all alone. The amount of times she nearly died grow larger and larger, as does her time as a vagrant until, finally, she ends up somewhere safe: Alexandria. She's taken in with open arms, given food and shelter and a home. But with safety comes the loss of something greater, that being her freedom. Once again, she's forced to stay inside the walls. Does she follow the rules? Mostly… except for when the longing in her heart grows unbearable. It leads to her sneaking out and spending her time in the woods, growing close with nature just as she was before the outbreak.

But things once again change greatly when a group of familiar faces end up in Alexandria. The prison group. She sees them welcomed just as she was; treated with deserved kindness and hospitality. Even more so, she sees Carl. Standing there, with his expression cold, built up from years of betrayal. He turns into a kink in her everyday life, a clog in the machine that is her routine.

Their story contains a mess of emotions and events. Animosity. Jealousy. Anger. Infatuation. Desire. Love. And, most of all, a heartache that plagues their intertwined souls the longer they spend ignoring what they have.
