This isn’t really about specific alters but it’s a few terms I don’t understand. What are layers, subsystems, and sidesystems, and what’s the difference between them?

hi! so each of those can be defined similarly, but by our understanding, they generally mean the same thing.

a subsystem is another system within the main one, this could be a group of people who are similar or it could be specific and accessible to one person.

a side system, to my understanding, is almost exact? the way we categorize this, is a system that's not exactly exclusive to one person? they may prefer being called a side system because they feel as if they are separate from the "main" system in some way.

a layer is just a break in the system, so it could be breaks in communication, alter identity, fragments, or people who front frequently.

please remember that this is our interpretation of the terms, if anybody disagrees or wants to share their definition, please do so!

Hello I'm a system and there's an alter trying to shut the system out out gatekeepers and Protectors are holding them back as I type this but the alter is trying to lock away the system and is making us confused I don't know what they are but they are trying to hurt our sys is what I know this is their sp I'm asking for help because I am desperate

very delicate situation, i wasn't sure if you wanted help with what we usually do or help on it's own. so i'll be doing the latter. in this situation, they seem confused themselves. the brain may use denial of a certain thing to cope with it, DID is similar. they believe they are helping, even if it does harm. in this situation, if they front, try talking to them about why they do this. genuinely listen and try to explain why it hurts rather than helps.

Hey um, so one of our alters is a kiddo like 9 yrs old and for now we have just been calling her nicknames but if you have any good name ideas for a little girl who has literally no access to any of our issues (ptsd, depression, anxiety) that isn’t super cutesy that would be great

hi! i was wondering if you could recommend any shark related pronouns? we’ve tried shark, snare, snap and tooth/teeth and it’s not a fan of any of those 😭 they also only communicate in ‘feelings and vibes’ so i’m sorry i can’t give more!
