So you’ve downloaded the game, and are starting it up.
This is the title screen, something you’ll see every time you open up the app. Before beginning, you must agree to the EULA, the red option on the right. In general, the red or right option will be progress. After that, you’re given the option to start a new game or transfer an existing game to this account. For now, let’s pick the left option, new game.
You’re introduced to the president of 765 Pro, your company. You’ll also meet your assistant, Misaki Aoba. You’ll notice in the top right, you also have the option to skip these cutscenes using the arrows in the top right.
Now who do you want to be? Type in your producer name and then select which of the three main idols you want to start with: Mirai Kasuga, Shizuka Mogami, and Tsubasa Ibuki. Whichever you choose will be the center in your first live!
But now let’s move on to gameplay. Theater Days is very similar to Starlight Stage. There are basic tap notes, tap and hold notes, flicks can go left, right, or up now, and slide notes (you must keep your finger on the note as it moves).
Now try a show out for yourself. Theater Days has a scaling difficulty, where the number of buttons increases with the difficulty. Easy starts with just two. The bigger a note is, the more points it’s worth! There are six types of timing: Perfect, Great, Good, Slow, Fast, and Miss. Get Perfects and Greats to extend your combo and get more points.
The cards you pick will also have special skills that affect your play. The six mentioned are: Score Up, Life Heal, Judgement, Combo Continue, Damage Guard, and Combo Bonus.
Once completed, you are brought to the results screen (suspiciously similar to that of Starlight Stage). After a good performance, you’ll gain experience, money, and fans. You also can get cards and consumable items.
Idols will also individually gain experience and fans when you use them in a live. They also gain affection, the key to unlocking new side stories for them.
With that, you’ve finished the tutorial! Now you can explore the various rooms on the home screen. Tap idols with speech bubbles above them to hear what they have to say. Listen to them to increase you Producer Gauge.
One more thing! Open your present box to claim your preregistration gifts. Everybody gets them! I encourage you to explore the rest of the game on your own and I’ll have more detailed guides up tomorrow probably.
The Idolm@ster Million Live Theater Days has launched on both iOS and Android (also QooApp) right now. You can download the game, but Bandai Namco’s servers are not yet live. While you wait, stay tuned for guides and tips.
See how you can download Japanese apps with this guide.
Last night, a live stream focusing on Theater Days was broadcast on NicoNico and some new details were revealed. First, we have two new idols introduced: Tsumugi Shiraishi (left) and Kaori Sakuramori (right). Idols have also been organized into three types: Fairy, Princess, and Angel. Even more details will be shown off in the June issue of Famitsu magazine. I hope the game can launch soon!
After going through Theater Days, I don’t think I have it in me to be in charge of another Idolmaster game blog, even though it’s a fun game. I’d rather just enjoy both rather than stress about them. So that said, I won’t be completing my guide. It’s not even really necessary now, the climate has changed drastically since the release of Starlight Stage. Everybody’s getting in on these games. So instead, I will link a bunch of other great resources.

Theater Days has officially hit the 1 million preregistered users mark, which means at the game’s launch everyone who did prereg will get one free SSR ticket! Thanks to everyone that participated and look forward to the game’s release this year!
Before we begin, I’d like to thank @mirishita_eng on Twitter for compiling and sharing almost all of this info with pictures (I missed the stream myself). I strongly recommend follow them!
Koi no Lesson Shokyuuhen MV
First, just today we got another preview MV, this time “Koi no Lesson Shokyuuhen”. Before you ask, still no new release date!
Difficulty and note types
The note types are the basic tap, hold, flick left/right, flick up, and slide. TWO-MIX is “easy mode”. Only two pads are shown on the screen and the slide note is not used. The game will also let you know if you’re slow or fast in your taps! FOUR-MIX increases the number to four and does include the slide note (comparable to Starlight Stage’s MASTER+). Presumably, SIX-MIX will be “hard and make the game much more difficult. Additionally, the is SOLO LIVE TWO-MIX, where you hold your device vertically and focus on one idol while playing with two note pads.
Rooms!
Unlike Starlight Stage, Theater Days rooms and the idols within them are 3D modeled and interactive. Idols will randomly appear and disappear in the various areas, with their icon appearing to announce their arrival. Tap on idols with speech bubbles above them to talk with them. Talking with idols will increase you Producer Rank. Additionally, different rooms can put idols in different outfits!
Blogging?
Idols will also have blogs that they update and you can read. They’ll also send you emails! Living in the digital age sure is something, huh?
Lastly, almost all of this new info can be viewed right here (in Japanese obviously), there are a few new MVs and seiyuu being cute. Also, check out the updated website and new commercial!
We have a lot more details on the new Million Live rhythm game, Theater Days. It seems to improve on the Starlight Stage formula in many ways including
3D stories and room
A new assistant character, Misaki Aoba
A 4 or 6 button rhythm “Unit Live” game
A vertical 2 button “Solo Live” game
More dynamic 3D lives
To prep for the game’s launch sometime this year, a preregistration drive is going. There are several stages, the last being 1 million registrations and giving everyone a free SSR! You can register with an email address or Twitter account from this page. Be aware it may be slow due to overwhelming demand. Look forward to the release!
