some winter yulma headcanons to warm you up (modern au edition)

Their flat turns into a one big blanket fort during winter season since they both hate being cold. 

They also drink more hot beverages than the other squad does (Lena excluded maybe). Alma loves all the hot chocolate with marshmallow while Kanda tends to drink more all kinds of herbal tea but they both love some citrus notes in their drinks as it makes the atmosphere more christmasish (shut up, Alma, there's no even such word) 

They also go skating and it's a thing they tend to do aside from the squad, so Lavi and Allen tease them about doing some shitty sugary romantic stuff, but in the reality they are still a couple of clumsy idiots on ice, but it makes these dates so special, full of falling and laughing and swearing. (stop saying bad words, Yuu, there're children around!) And it brings them back to the nostalgic time of their shared childhood when there were only two of them and the world seemed to be so much smaller and less complicated than it is now. 

Alma is fond of singing carols on a Christmas Eve. Kanda scoffs every time that they are not even religious but agrees to follow his over-enthusiastic about holidays boyfriend.  

Singing is not included, no way he would ever sing. That one drunk in the karaoke time doesn't counts! How did we even happen to get there and what that Johnтy was doing there too and just what??? Alma never answers, just smiles fondly as he prefers to keep those precious memories for himself only. 

It is winter when they do most of coffee-shop dates. Alma insists that it's the best time for them. They also do skating dates, and illumination watching dates and who the hell names shopping for Christmas presents a date, it's not a date but a torture...(it's not)

Third part of their winter clothes consists of shitty garbage holiday sweaters Tiedoll gets to them every year. They are pretty much comfortable to wear though and so it's not a surprise to see them both in green and red coloured sweaters even if it's been a month since the day of Christmas. Comfort is better than style, claims Kanda while Alma corrects him that comfort is their style. 

Kanda always gets gloves as a present for a Valentine's day. It's kind of a tradition as Alma tends to lose gloves every year. He's extremely embarrassed about it happening but Kanda reassures him that he saves him lot's of time he could have spend trying to figure out which present is the best. Gloves also are created to keep hands warm and it's a good symbol for a long-termed relationship as theirs is.

Sometimes Alma sees flowers in his dreams. These flowers are so different than anything he has ever seen in the laboratory, that once he tries to describe them to Edgar and can’t even find words. Edgar pats his head and says: “Maybe, one day you’ll see them.”

The days are full of boredom and pain of synchronization tests, so every night going to sleep, Alma somehow waits to see those dreams once again. He tries to look at them as attentively as its possible, he tries to remember them, so he would be able to draw them. But every time he wakes up his head hurts, and there’s some strange feeling in the chest - as if he was absolutely happy and miserable at the same time. 

Alma creates the stories from those short dreams - since there’s nothing to do, and there’re little books to read. He tells these stories to his future friends sleeping in ponds, and every time the fairy tales are different. Mostly at because the dreams he sees are so brief that Alma can’t even remember details. 

Sometimes his fairy tales tale are about a kind fairy from the dungeon, who brings beautiful pink blossoms to children so their tears would stop. Sometimes the tale is about a knight with a gentle smile, who searches for a way to make an enchanted flower bloom, so his beloved one will be with him once again. He doesn’t know why, but every time he tells stories about that person, he wants to laugh and to burst in tears at the same time. 

There’re days when Alma sees pink petals every time he closes his eyes. These days his head hurts so much, but he tells nothing, as he afraid he would be scolded. Or maybe it’s because of a strange fear that these dreams would be taken away, as these dreams are the most precious thing he has in this darkened place. But at the same time he wants these dreams to be taken away, as they are so painful and so full of these feeling he’ll never be able to explain.

One day he wakes up in the middle of the night, and sneaks to the room with ponds. He finds himself on the cold floor, face wet from tears, drops dripping softly to the calm water of the closest pond. His heart is so full of strange longing, calling for someone (wake up, please, wake up, you can’t leave me like this, you have promised) But the water is still, and Alma laughs happily and bitterly at the same time. He apologises gently to the sleeping one below the surface and hopes his future friend won’t get angry at him later. 

He is too tired to go back, so he falls asleep on a cold floor seeing no flowers or anyone this time, but its somehow still warm for him. Maybe, it’s because of a new strange feeling inside of his chest.

Maybe this is that feeling called hope.

Alma wakes up and the water near him is no longer still. And his mind becomes free of vague memories of flowers.

He needs strange dreams and illusions no more after all. 

Because it’s the day Yuu wakes up.

Please give me a long distance relationship au in which Kanda and Alma are separated as kids after the Sixth Laboratory incident, and Alma lives in North America department. 

They are allowed to send letters to each other, and Alma writes lots about every detail of his daily life, even if he considers it boring himself. He just likes writing and decorating the paper with coloured ink and glitters and drawing small sketches. 

Kanda rolls his eyes every time he opens the envelope, and his answers are really short, but he really does his best too. He even makes a tough decision to ask TIedoll for a couple of drawing lessons, because there’re things on his missions he knows for sure Alma would like to witness.  

When they get older, Komui gets a permission for them to have a phone talk once in a month, because of their good behaviour. At their first time they are both nervous and embarrassed; Kanda is somehow afraid that Alma is changed because of his new voice, but after the other drops the receiver for at least three times because of being nervous, he pushes all of his fears away. 

It is a great shock for a newcomer Allen Walker to see Kanda one day on a phone; he doesn’t say much, mostly humming and giving short answers, but it feels like he’s another person, because Allen has never seen this grumpy asshole with such a stupidly happy look on his face. 

Of course, after hanging a phone, he gets an angry glance and “What are you staring at?” question, and it’s not like he’s surprised. No one in the Order is surprised, though.

But one day they see a cheerful young man, who jumps out of the Arc’s gate right to the frozen out of embarrassment Kanda (he’s able to make such kind of face??? what a surprise???), and the mystery is solved and accepted wholeheartedly.
