I hate this fandom Russell is always pushed to the side in favor of murdoc and it's obviously bc he's black. and while murdoc's character is interesting Russell is,,y'know,,a good person

I don’t really know if this is supposed to be a confession or not because it doesn’t have much to do with ships, so I’m just going to answer it here. Please forgive me if this was meant to be made into a confession.

I agree with you, it’s frustrating. It doesn’t help that canon itself pushes him aside as well, as it’s not like that sad fact will bring him any more fandom focus than he already gets.

I suppose I can see why people might like Murdoc more than Russel, as he does have more development and screen time, and it’s easier to get attached to characters that get those, even if the other character is a better person. Besides that, I don’t think it’s necessarily better to like the “good” characters as long as you aren’t being weird about your love for evil ones. But while I understand why people are drawn to characters that have more personality to them, I think the real problem lies in how the people that refuse to hold Murdoc accountable for anything he does overlaps with the people that are on lookout for anything even slightly problematic Russel does so they can use that as a “Gotcha!” in response to 2/russ shippers or Murdoc critics. That makes black people like myself quite… uncomfortable. I mean, we can all see what they’re really trying to do when they’re pulling up receipts on Russel to cover Murdoc’s behind, or worse, act like he’s just as bad as him.

This fandom’s always either demonizing the black man or not paying attention to him in the first place, which is sadly not uncommon in fandom spaces.
