Stupid question, probably: "Tolkien" is such a broad topic. What happens if art and author prompts don't match?
The way it works is the artists create a piece of art (we don’t give them prompts, so there is basically free reign)
The artist then emails this art(probably a sketch, it will not be the finished work)/a picture of the art to us, and we stick it in our Preview document.
During Preview Weekend (starts May 25th) we email a link to the Previews to the authors who are signed up and allow them to peruse the arts available.
After Preview Weekend, that is Monday the 28th at 8 pm CET we enable the Claims form - a link will be mailed to the participating authors ahead of time, though it won’t accept replies until 8 - and the authors then send us their chosen prompts in order of preference.
At this point, Narya and I are going to be scrambling to keep up, most likely (hopefully! and on my birthday of all days, too!) greying out claimed art in the preview document as claims are made.
Once we have matched author with art, we email the author and artist each other’s contact details - what happens after this point is to a degree up to the pairs in question. Some artists may prefer a lot of back and forth, maybe headcanons they’d like/not like to see (I know, for example, that Crispy Ambarussa even in passing is a major no-no for one of our artists), while others prefer to let their writer have absolute control. (See the FAQ)
At this point, your only obligations as a writer is that you must write at minimum 5000 words, you MUST include elements from the piece of artwork you have claimed, and the two of you MUST agree on a way to post the final collaboration (See Masterpost Info)
As you can see, there is very little chance of “not matching” as you are not assigned a prompt, you choose it (bear in mind that you will be writing for the artist’s vision, so descriptions of people etc should match your art ;) )
Hope this cleared up your question!
