Name: Fayforn
Debut: Hollow Knight Silksong
I've been having a blast playing Silksong! Fantastic game! And something it really excels at is creature design! It's filled with charming critters with all kinds of body plans! It's wonderful!
Among these is the Fayforn, a creature talked about only in myth, said to offer great insight if they deem you worthy, if not... they won't hesitate to simply kill you.
Such a powerful being deserved to be built an altar to summon, the ancestors of Hornet built a giant tuning fork at the top of Mount Fay, an imposingly high frigid mountain whose peak can only be reached through hardcore platforming, and it must be done fast lest you succumb to the frigid winds chipping at your health if you take too long.
It is an absolute odyssey to attempt! Exploring crystal caverns and abandoned high-tech settlements on the way, it's a treacherous climb, but if you manage to reach the end, your reward? An encounter with the mythical creature!
It swoops far in the background, blindingly fast despite being so large, it lands violently on the peak, seemingly about to start a boss fight.
But then.... they deem you worthy, and is such a sweetie! Just huddled around you, looking at you softly, they bestow a bit of their feathery down to fill your cloak, protecting you from the cold as well as giving you the ability to double jump! So kind...
Then you can chill with the fayforn as long as you'd like! They'll be constantly purring, it sounds almost like a pigeon cooing, so cute... take a listen! (Try to ignore the howling wind)
Suuuch an awe-inspiring encounter!
Now let's talk design! They have a very long neck, eyes on opposite sides that, with their small head, let's them have full 360 vision from the front and behind! They possess 2 stubby horn-like antennae on their head, they're also very fluffy, with 4 wings and 2 long strands of fluff to serve as tails. I have reason to believe Team Cherry was inspired by Fairy/Woolly Aphids to make this design!
Do you see my vision? They're also covered in white, soft fluff, and have elongated strands of fluff at the end that look like tails! They're also Fairy aphids, and they're called the "Fay"forn.
Also look at this photo I love it sooo much, they really are fluffy little fairies! Our earth is so magical!
Name: Driftlin
Debut: Hollow Knight: Silksong
There's also this little fellow, which can be found in large numbers all throughout the climb, you actually have to use them as platforms to get to the peak, only after my second visit through Mount Fay I realized they have a lot of similarities with the Fayforn! Fluff-covered upper body with a naked abdomen and the same stubby horn-like antennae! So they seem to be related! Perhaps they're even the nymphs that will one day grow into Fayforns!
All in all Mount Fay is a delightful location, filled with creatures most beautiful! I really wanted to showcase it!
