after reading through this blog and its… interesting asks, I'm afraid this might be kind of a downer. but hey I wanna get this shit off my chest so might as well. in the age of us looking back on cringe shit and video essays on years-old fandom drama, I'm honestly surprised NOBODY has talked about the shitstorm that was the Feliciana Vargas FB page (if you have FB, look up Feliciana Vargas/N Italy and you'll probably find it - it's the page that has the orange-tinted pic of her cutting off a braided ponytail). it was a roleplay page by a girl named Mari (and a couple of co-mods who manned the fort), whose family was killed in a fire over Christmas 2011, then she had to testify in court against their murderer, who was sentenced to death. she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer shortly after and passed away in January 2012. exceeeept... one of the co-mods came out in 2014 and outright stated the whole thing was a fucking lie, that nobody died and the whole entire thing was puppeted by their co-mod Charity. in retrospect, it should've been obvious in that we never got ANYTHING to verify any of it. no obituaries, no news articles, I remember even trying to find news reports on a family dying in a fire (which you'd think would be international news???), and everyone involved refused to release any identifying information about Mari despite making a memorial page for her. not to mention all of this shit happening in the span OF A MONTH - but I remember it deeply impacted the Hetalia roleplay community at the time, and her last post in January 2012 still has several comments and likes bereaving her "death".
I guess there isn't much that can be done short of obsessively tracking down every single individual involved and asking them for answers (incredibly difficult because all of this happened well over a decade ago), but I'm still so disappointed that the community that rallied behind "Mari" were so badly manipulated and hurt by all of this. if anything, I just wish someone would shed light on this bullshit and at least give some closure to the people hurt by this. I know a lot of her roleplay partners and close friends were very publicly devastated by this.
wow. i wasn't in the fandom at that time so i never heard about this, but jesus, that's a fucked up thing to do, and i'm sorry you (presumably) experienced that. honestly, i'm not sure there's much i can say aside from what i already have but. yeah. fandom back in the day was......... well. it sure was something. i'm sorry they manipulated you like that.
