What does it mean to be hyperverbal?
Hyperverbal means to talk a lot, the complete opposite of nonverbal. It usually happens because when there’s no noise, you get understimulated. Or you could also be nervous, which is also a possibility for some people.
-Mod Bowie
Being hyperverbal can also be a result of compensating for missing nonverbal communication, by using more and more specific words to make up for the gap. So What someone who is not autistic might communicate with with words, and some facial expressions and body language, to a hyperverbal autistic person might just be expressed as a bunch of words.

An anon sent in an ask about being hyperverbal, and they said;
This is totally unrelated but I'm pretty much a hyperverbal person myself and it happens especially when I get nervous and get frustrated and feel like I'm not expressing myself and it just winds up getting worse and worse... I wish I was just nonverbal tbh people seem to like that more in autistic ppl that we just don't talk instead of talk at all

tuafw you're at your therapist's and they have brand new stim toys on their table and you get too distracted playing with them and finding your favorite and you keep forgetting what you were going to talk about - 🙊🐉
Sorry, your tag doesn’t seem to be on the list, I can’t find what it’s tagged as. For now I’ve tagged it as just “🙊🐉 asks” -Mod Ten
This has since been labelled monkey snake asks - Mod Liz
So idk if this is the best place to come to but I'm starting to be unsure if I'm autistic or have ADHD bc the boy I babysit got diagnosed with ADHD and we have the same behaviors (except he has more meltdowns but he's also 5 and I'm an adult) and I was just wondering if there was a resource that compares the differences
Here’s a link to a break down of the two.
It’s also worth noting the possibility, that you’re both both, as adhd and autism are highly comorbid. There’s no guarantee that his diagnosis is completely right, professionals have been known to miss things, when testing for other things. Not saying this is a guarantee, you know him better than I could, so your own assessment is more meaningful.
I hope that link is what you need!

hi! sorry if this seems odd but i was wondering if while my diagnosis is pending me saying im autistic would count as self diagnosis/undiagnosed autism? because whilst my mum is 100% sure i am autistic and my therapist guy thinks so too, the diagnosing process is long and painful and although im not technically diagnosed yet would i be "allowed" to say im diagnosed autistic? sorry! you just seemed the best blog to ask. it would be helpful if people replied to this post too with their thoughts!
I would say that the only person who would be affected by that choice, is you. Maybe also anyone who would be giving you accommodations, for example, at school.
So let’s say for example, you’re in highschool, and trying to get accommodations. You would tell the guidance counselor, that you’re in the process of getting a formal diagnosis.
Nearly anyone else, the distinction hardly matters. Peers at school? They may not know or care about the difference. People online? The topic only comes up as often as you want it to, and you can explain it however you feel the need to. If you want to say that you’re diagnosed, go for it. It sounds like your therapist and everyone else is confident that you’re autistic, and all you’re waiting on, is some paper.
If you feel more comfortable saying that you’re professionally diagnosed, I don’t see a problem with that, since you’re in the process of getting it formalized.
