Concordia Design Wroclaw is a project designed by mode:lina™. Wyspa Słodowa is quite unique spot on Wroclaw’s plan. For years it has been a centre of various events organized, independently, with help of local visual artists and musicians. Concordia Design building, conjured by the brilliant minds of MVRDV only feshes out that uniqueness. Photography by Patryk Lewiński.

To arrange one of the most demanding parts of the building – void (the undercut), the Investor asked for help none other than mode:lina™ designers. “Our prime goal was to keep the idea of architecture’s complete immersion, while at the same time leaving enough space for comfy, intimate spaces for various meetings, informal gatherings and work – Paweł Garus, architect and co-owner in mode:lina™. A big void (undercut) is a space, widely open in every direction, where both interior and fora outside fow within each other. Grand mural created by Alicja Biała is the perfect testament to that openness and a compliment to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.”
“Outstanding height of the room, three enormous glazed facades and monumental mural on the ceiling are key space-defning elements that, at the same time, impose many limits. Interior arrangement should in no way be simple embellishment or rival architecture itself, it’s task is to fll in the gaps left by it – Jerzy Woźniak, architect and co-owner in mode:lina™” Efortless forms created by mode:lina™ paved the way for balanced interiors that perfectly supplement the scale of existing architecture. Hidden in smaller arrangements of each and every zone are all possible scenarios that guests are welcome to play out. In the new space of the restaurant all elements: lights, textures, colors and shapes skilfully interact with one another. Open space of the building’s big restaurant was divided into smaller cubicles using tall plants and individually designed furniture. “Void” was flled with high legged tables with an integrated lightning system, smaller tables with specifc construction and freely fowing curtains from the metal hangers, all making space more intimate and cosy. What’s even more important is that it’s easily moveable, allowing for reorganising space in the spirit of any scheduled event. Central space is occupied by a vast bar in the form of an easily accessible island. It is of great importance especially during summers, as the facade encompasses a set of wide doors that are fully opened during that season. Steel construction of the bar not only allows for keeping and presenting a wide variety of liquor, but also invites all-surrounding nature inside. Back wall is closed of by the big dining section, which under the brand of SLODOWA presents guests with a broad selection that absolutely every “foodie” will adore. It’s central part is mainly composed of black tiles, which in turn is supported by perforated plate in the back and the wall that are a smooth continuation of the mural. Achieved color mapping clearly organizes space for three independent gastronomical concepts, each having its’ assigned color alluding to the mural above them. Open terrace on the top foor of the Concordia Design is the great extension of the gastronomic concept down below. It’s focal points – enormous bar, in shape mirroring the one in the Void and big seatings imitating stadium-like tribunes, made from plywood with overprinted bits of Alicia Biała’s mural. Designers loosely referenced seaside resorts both material wise for the bar and in catalogue’s furniture character.

The Power of Colors! Totalmoney.pl is a team of ambitious fnancial analysts who are behind the frst comprehensive comparison engine of banking products in Poland. We wanted to work with architects experienced in designing similar spaces and…that’s how we met mode:lina™ team. We were captivated by their non-standard solutions, interesting concepts, their general approach to design as well as profciency in working on a project remotely! – Edyta Kulej-Dziergowska,Totalmoney.pl Inspired by the energy of the Totalmoney.pl team, designers frommode:lina™ prepared a design of the ofce where colors drawn directly from the brand’s visual identity, became the leitmotif. A geometric grid of colours seen across the whole ofce also has a specifc function: it dynamically connects all of the ofce areas. The Wrocław ofce is an unusual open-space arrangement that has adopted a new formula. Employees of respective departments needed some private areas, however free communication between them was equally as important. The architects separated smaller zones for teams out of a large area, by using openwork partitions, walls with plants and screens. This simple procedure allowed to keep the ofce open, while providing privacy and distance needed in each department. Additionally, some walls have spacious wardrobes hidden inside them, while large surfaces on the outside can be used for sketches and notes. The introduction of light partitions, in addition to the visual aspect, had a positive impact on the acoustics in the ofce. Simple functional choices, colorful decorative metalwork and graphically expressive room markings, all created a clear and intuitive layout of the ofce. All key facilities have been located centrally with guests and staf guided by geometric colorful graphics interspersed with clearly visible telephone booths. Elements related to the manner of working and to tools of the analysts’ team flled the conference rooms. The largest and most representative conference room is inspired by an integrated circuit: steel decorations are combined with acoustic panels which are almost invisible. Additionally, some computer hardware can be seen on the walls. Themes in other meeting rooms are: a large bank safe, characteristic locations on the map of Wroclaw (where company headquarters is) complemented by fgures of Monsters, which are part of the company’s branding. Thanks to those solutions, common areas such as the playroom have received a graphic, almost poster-like style. Some elements refer to the function of the rooms: this is how a distinctive chandelier made of wooden spoons was created in the shared kitchen and eating area, while headphones and microphones (so common in the times of working from home) flled one of the conference rooms.

There is an interesting story behind the Ślonsko Chałpa (transl. from local dialect – Silesian House) project by mode:lina. The final shape is the result of the reconstruction of existing buildings from the so-called State Collective Farm from the 70’s evoking the essence of buildings from that period, i.e. raw, concrete and brick, as well as the simplicity of form and construction. Photography by Patryk Lewiński

The reconstruction was intended to adapt an old barn falling into ruin to a single-family house while preserving the concrete structure of the building together with some bricks and steel elements. Existing buildings, due to their modular grid of columns and concrete ceiling, could be easily rebuilt and arranged freely. The main structure of the building was shortened by four structural fields, of which two fields formed an external terrace, and another two made room for a double-height living room. The original structure and shape of the barn is clearly visible from the living room, where we have an exact cross-section of the building in the form of a mezzanine. The roof of the building itself was raised so that residential functions could be accommodated on the first floor. The client together with architects decided to preserve the ascetic atmosphere of the building, which is why the block itself still has a simple barn-like shape. The wood cladded façade was pierced with large, irregular openings to let in as much daylight as possible. The cube-type house adjacent to the barn was entirely painted gray and arranged as a guest house. In the interior natural and minimalist finishing materials such as beautifully grained wood and dark polished granite contrast well and complement each other with visible robust materials like uneven bricks and untreated concrete with visible cutting marks.

‘When we were looking for a studio, we were looking for someone with a fresh and light approach. A studio that would create a setting with a relaxed atmosphere’, explained Magdalena Borowiec from Profm. The newly opened showroom combines a maximally functional interior, which is to be a tool for work, education and the exchange of ideas, with a space where the quality and unique design of the Scandinavian brand can be seen at frst glance. The well-lit, industrial premises have become a minimalistic space that provides an optimum background for the products on display, where the leading role is played by a spectacular central installation comprising more than a hundred chairs. The colourful mosaic was created by using about 130 chair backs from the RBM Noor series, which circulate the central part of the ground foor, hiding all the technical rooms behind their walls. This approach has become one of the building’s distinguishing features, which is also visible from outside. The remaining products were arranged using mobile wooden cubes and the open space of the showroom was separated by suspended acoustic panels. The showroom needed to provide a multifunctional space that would meet the expectations of a large number of its users, including those who work there on a daily basis, visiting guests, or those participating in large events. That is how thecreative table area was created, which is complemented by wooden showcases, displaying a whole range of samples and materials. The next area is theliving area with a large bar made of black lacquered sheet metal. The frst foor was additionally equipped with a subdued and calm work area, which is well lit, with a separate conference room in the form of wooden cubes and places for peaceful work. Acoustic panels run through the whole interior which, combined with a large amount of greenery, create an optimal working environment. Using only natural materials for the interior, mode:lina™ designers opted for a sustainable and eco-friendly design, which is at the core of Flokk’s philosophy.

CAMPPINUS PARK Innovative Resort is a project designed by mode:lina. CAMPPINUS PARK Innovative Resort houses create a quiet, tranquil space ideal for taking a rest, where Guests are ofered a respite from a multitude of stimuli of a large-city bustle.CAMPPINUS PARK celebrates the surrounding natural scenery and allows to live in the present moment guilt-free.
The resort combines tradition with modernity. It was created to show that by complementing each other, those two worlds exist in balance and harmony. Connections to traditional buildings are captured in a stable located close to the entrance, the shape of the houses or the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban wood burning technique. The modernity can be seen in carefully designed functional interiors and ever-present technological innovations.
The interior concept derives directly from the architecture’s character – inside of buildings with black facades, the designers placed smaller, distinctive black houses which contain a kitchen, a bathroom and wardrobes. This allowed for a visual division of houses into functional areas. A visible wooden construction, in a natural pine colour, forms a living room with a large glass facade; while surrounding the black house with grey concrete tiles which resemble typical hexagon pavers, help distinguish passageways and dining area.
New technologies are an important element as well – smart homes, a tablet for a guide or soon to be introduced virtual reality will all be a treat for tech maniacs, but they will also open up new possibilities for taking a rest, and therefore they will create new defnitions of holidays. The inventors of Camppinus Park advocate individualism and uniqueness – smart homes adjust the surroundings to guest’s individual needs, which in fact makes the guest a creator of their own leisure.

mode:lina™ has a new ofce in Poznań’s Jeżyce! While mode:lina™’s previousmini-ofce with a mezzanine was a great hit, as the studio grew the time has come to bring in new members of the team and to increase our ofce space. We decided to have our new premises in a fully renovated townhouse situated in a trendy and fast developing Poznań neighborhood.
The new studio has a simple, minimalistic form with a monochrome palette, consistent with mode:lina™’s visual identity system. The design of the workspace is based on two contrasting black and white parts. The bright space is where the creative work takes place. It has large desks and work areas for designers. Custom-designed large shared desks allow for an easy transition from individual to team work. It was also very important to hide the cords, which were placed inside the desks. Dynamic diagonal lines separate the white part of the ofce from the black one. This is where the kitchen area and spacious storage units are. The units run along the length of the ofce and have enough room to hold all of our equipment. There is even an entrance to a secret room! Behind one of the doors lies a hidden bathroom with a shower – not at all noticeable at frst glance. 1/3 mode:lina architekci paweł garus jerzy woźniak sp.j. • słowackiego 20/25 • 60-823 poznań nip 7811869600 • http://www.modelina-architekci.com • tel. +48 61 223 12 12 To link the arrangement of the new ofce with our visual identity system, the designers introduced large logotypes made of acoustic foam, which further increase the acoustic comfort of the space.
