Terex Rough Terrain Crane Model RT670 Aids Justice Center Construction
In 2011, Carson Concrete of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, accepted a subcontract to complete 11,000 cubic yards of concrete work for the floors, walls, and footings of a new justice center in Bucks County. Due to the undeveloped status of the construction site, Carson Concrete founder Anthony Samango acknowledged the need for a new, rough-terrain crane in order to complete the job. He and the company subsequently purchased a 70-ton RT670 Rough Terrain crane from Terex Corporation. Featuring a main boom length of 111 feet and a maximum counterweight of 14,200 pounds, the Terex RT670 allows for fast-paced, heavy-duty lifting in concrete construction projects. The crane’s six-speed powershift transmission and four-wheel drive enable it to navigate rough and undeveloped terrain with ease, regardless of worksite congestion. Additionally, its undercarriage’s design borrows features from the 80-ton RT780 model in order to provide the crane with solid performance throughout its lift range. Fortunately, the crane’s boom length met the height requirements for construction on the nine-story justice center, and its available offsettable jib offered an additional 57 feet for ongoing construction needs. Its undercarriage also allowed Carson to erect the center’s large wall panels, which reach a height of 35 feet. Designed for speed and efficiency, the crane remained on-site for a period of four months in 2012.
