Male Authorship
Modern Magic Made Simple is one of those anime that’s all about girls and written by a man.
And like...
This whole episode revolved around a girl trying to get her panties back from a magic monster that stole them at random. It involves her meeting the protagonist by having said protag bump into her breasts, and then fall backwards such that she sees the protag’s panties, and later in the episode when the girl’s hunting the monster the protag sees her ladybits on account of her running around after the monster...
In other words, it’s one of those anime that’s all about girls and very plainly written by a man, in a way that makes me disappointed with male authorship of women at large. Because it treats certain interactions as Important - not even comical, just Necessary because That’s How Things Are, Right? With Girls?
...No, actually. That isn’t how things are with girls. They don’t have magnetic boobs. They don’t obsess over whether or not some other girl saw their panties, unless they’ve picked up the behavior from watching anime written by men. If they’re uncomfortable with having no panties and they’re in the middle of a shopping district and they’ve lost the trail of the thing they’re chasing...they just buy new damn underwear, it’s not complicated.
I like smut! I actually enjoy smutty anime and manga. But this kind of nudge-nudge wink-wink style that has these...totems of writing, these tropes that Must Be, never mind reality or the fact that they actively detract from the story and every character involved...It’s just so damn bland. This is so aimless and spends so much time on needless trash that it feels like a filler episode, and this is the third episode of the series. That seems like a bad sign.
