Modern Makers Meet Ladies + Gentlemen Studio
Founded in 2010 by Dylan Davis + Jean Lee, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio create a diverse set of products through playful exploration in materiality fused with their desire to find ideal pairings of material and function.
The duo met while studying industrial design at the University of Washington. While launching their careers at companies such as General Assembly, R.E Load Baggage + Henrybuilt., Dylan + Jean obsessively collected vintage items which led them to open an online vintage shop. Eventually they started experimenting with modifying vintage items to create something new. Ladies + Gentlemen Studio was born from this experimentation.
We’ve carried a number of their items in the past + are thrilled to now be stocking their modern wind chimes for our Modern Makers campaign.
Handcrafted, these gorgeous contemporary wind chimes are made of brass, metal tubes, glazed ceramics + other found objects. Designed for use indoors and outdoors, each chime set is handmade by the studio.
Shop their Modern Maker’s collection here.
Modern Makers
Meet Blackbird.
Established in 2004, Blackbird is a design studio that sprouted from an award winning menswear store based in Seattle, WA. Their store gained international frame for stocking progressive unknown brands that bridged the categories of fashion + lifestyle.
After numerous successful years running their retail concept, Blackbird launched a private label collection built around an American-made denim line which has been expanded to include apparel, accessories, home goods + apothecary products.
While visiting a tradeshow in New York, our buyer Joyce Lo met the Blackbird team + fell in love with their apothecary products. We are thrilled to be carrying their line of incense.
Blackbird Incense is a contemporary update to the ancient tradition of burning incense. The scents are modern & inspired + based on perfume concepts. We are currently stocking Blood Countess (resinous, warm, spicy), Hibernus (cool, amber, birch), Ozo (strong, floral, sandalwood), Roheline (summer, green, tomato leaf) and Sepulchre (mysterious, white flower, wood).
Each tin contains 20-24 incense pyres. You can even use the lid of the time as a burner. Shop our Modern Makers Blackbird shop here.
We've partnered once again with our fave design blog Design Milk for a contest featuring one of our Modern Makers.
Here is your chance to win two fruit shaped planters by Brooklyn-based design studio Chen Chen + Kai Williams.
Their planters are cast of cement from molds made with actual fruit.
We are giving away a pineapple + avocado planter to one lucky winner.
