Hello. :)

I actually just got out of my Modern Spain class. 

We`ve discussed about Rosalia de Castro`s beautiful poems.

Anyways, first I want to apologize for anyone I`ve offended and hurt in any way because of my previous post. I probably should`ve reviewed my use of syntax before posting it. I did not mean that these cultures are flawed in a negative light at all. Our class focuses on the nationalism each of these three autonomous regions present and it was an err in my part for using the word FLAWED and CULTURE together. Throughout the time Basque nationalism, Catalonian nationalism and Galician nationalism ,based on what I learned in class, each had their own fair share of struggles in keeping their identities as Basques, Catalonians and Galicians due to the efforts of the Spanish government to keep Spain “together”. It is from these knowledge did I erroneously used the adjective flawed in describing their culture when what I really wanted to say— is that amidst the tribulations these autonomous regions had experienced they were still able to keep their BEAUTIFUL identity and cultures together.  This is what overwhelms me, the nationalism each of these regions steadfastly held for a long period of time. 

By no means am I criticizing the long and rich history, tradition and culture the Basque country, Catalonia and Galicia has built throughout the ages and I have no right at all as I am only seeing it in an outsider`s perspective. But in all honesty and sincerity do I tell you that  I appreciate and enjoy learning about them– not to judge but all for the knowledge. From Senyor Gaudi`s work to Merce Rodoreda`s Time of the Doves it was truly a joy and a very fulfilling experience to be given the chance to take this course and I definitely don`t want to end this journey with a bad note–lest to offend the very people who come from these cultures. 

Again, I am really sorry. Forgive me,  these tactless outsider`s eyes, for the use of an insensitive and shallow word to describe an age-long story.

I cannot emphasize enough how much I love my Spanish and Modern Spain class.

The previous poem I posted is one of the poetry we`re analyzing in class for tomorrow.  We`re done with the Basque Country and Catalonia so we`re now starting Galicia. I mean it`s amazing and extremely overwhelming learning about these flawed yet beautiful cultures.

UPDATE: I did not expect the hate I`ve received from this post. It was not my intention to offend anyone.I wrote this post with a good intention. :( Here`s a follow up post. I`m truly sorry.

To anyone who's a fan of Amr Khaled and loves Islamic History (who wouldn't) here's his series dedicated to the Muslims' time in Andalus (Modern day Spain). Amr Khaled, as always, is very eloquent and explains everything in a beautiful and simple way.
