Aziz Ansari Has Some Helpful Hints About 'Modern Romance'
Relationship blues got you down? Let Aziz Ansari be your guide through matters of the heart. The comedian and co-star of the recently-wrapped Parks and Recreation adds “author” to his résumé with his new book, Modern Romance, out Tuesday. Written with New York University sociologist Eric Klineberg, the book explores how modern technology has fundamentally altered the dating game and the basic concept of romance. “It’s such a unique time to be dating or in a relationship or trying to get married, and I think this book is kind of a cool overview of how things have changed,” Ansari tells Yahoo TV in the video interview above.
Although Modern Romance was written in conjunction with a professor, don’t worry: It doesn’t read like a textbook. Ansari and Klineberg spent two years gathering their information through interviews and focus groups conducted around the world, then filtered it through the comic’s distinctive point of view, addressing such subjects as online dating and the perils of texting. “[Romance] is a different kind of search than it used to be,” says the newly-minted relationship expert, whose most recent comedy special, Live at Madison Square Garden, is currently on Netflix. “You factor in the technology and everything and it’s really a much different climate.” For his next TV series, maybe Ansari should revive The Dating Game.
Modern Romance is available in bookstores and online now.
