“Without apology, I did it for you.” Cold stare is washed with empathy, letting it dilute and soften a usually harsh gaze. How else could he prove that he was on his side, but to brutally dismember his enemies? “Because I believe in you. In your rage.” And he’ll tend to that seed-- saturate it, until he can see only red.

“ perhaps you’ll take me out one day — or do I have to make an appointment ? ”
❝ It depends entirely if by taking you out you mean a session outside or for dinner. One requires an appointment, the other does not. ❞
Alice shivered as she stumbled behind the others through the brush. It was the middle of summer but it didn’t quite matter how hot it was, nothing could warm her from the cold thoughts running circles in her mind. The images of the attack, the betrayal of their guide, seeing men die. She shook her head trying to clear all thoughts, a girl such as herself had never known what it was to be frightened, maybe that of a long ago nightmare that her father would soothe with his husky voice, but today she had feared for her life and that of her sister and the men that accompanied them. Some had died, and had it not been for these strangers Alice was sure she was have perished as well. She grabbed at her skirts and picked them up some, trying to avoid tattering them anymore than they already were from the briers and muck of the forest. Her clouded eyes lifted to gaze upon the men at the front of their group, the new guides leading them to safety.

The river was a beautiful thing, snaking through the mountains and filling Natoma with a certain peace. Her fingertips brushed the tree that was beside her before she let out a soft breath, stepping out and letting her bare feet touch the cool water. Her eyes closed, heart rate easing and her fingertips gripping onto the fabric that graced her body. She needed some sort of relief from the struggles of her people. She hummed softly before hearing a noise behind her. Quickly, Natoma turned and saw the face of a man watching her. Doe eyes locked onto the unforgiving ones, taking a step back. He had a warrior’s stance, eyes that seemed to never move away from her. “Halito.” Her voice was soft, gentle, and seemed to be filled with warmth despite the fear running through her body.
Kaa had grown weary of the human world, as he was known to from time to time. So he had left the tribe he had been with, walked into the woods and simply never returned. That was nearly fifty years ago, and he had now returned to the human world to find it dramatically changed.
With the aid of creatures of the air he had been tracking those who he had once called his own, unsure which tribe resided here now. He knew only that he did not track the invaders, but the people he knew so well.
On the third day of tracking he found a hunter on the trail of some beast. He waited, crouched low, and waited to be seen. When Uncas’ eyes fell on him, Kaa only then chose to stand.

GHOSTS FILL THIS TOWN ! one in particular stands on street corners and in parking lots with familiar eyes and smiles like he’s got a secret. she’s not a fool, doesn’t go near the rez, or the spots he seems to like to hang out. ( it’s not that hard, they don’t run in the same circles. ) but avoiding only goes so far, HE STILL HAUNTS HER ! maybe it was a mistake coming back here, but there was a job and an apartment that might have been on the wrong side of town but it had hot water and two beds and she didn’t have a lot of other options. so she works at the diner, tries not to jump a little every time a boy with dark hair and warm colored skin comes in. sometimes she even manages not to notice. today she didn’t notice, went on not noticing until she was right next to the table, a soft smile in place ready to take an order. AND THEN HE TURNED. and it was him, it was uncas. he was older, features sharper and there was something darker in his eyes, and a heat rising in her cheeks. she wanted to spin around and run in the other direction, but she was taking a small step forward and wondering if she looked as panicked as she felt. ❝ . . . hey. ❞
