Lusamine grotesquely abuses her children like physically starving them or breaking bones ugh. And then people tend to project their parental issues onto Lusamine in a way that disrespects your canon

my policy has always been that, whenever i RP with Lillie and Gladion blogs, i’ll generally adhere to whatever their headcanons are regarding the extent of Lusamine’s abuse…aaaaaand that policy has led me to go along with some ideas i personally find gratuitous 😬

those things technically aren’t not-canon (the details of Lusamine’s abuse are largely left up to interpretation because lol video game for children), but personally…they’re not part of my headcanon. there are things to note about Lusamine’s character that make me more inclined to see her as one of those people who thinks “i’m not abusive, i’ve never once laid a hand on them!”

her fixation on appearances, Lillie and Gladion both claiming to have been treated like her “ornaments”…what kind of civilized loving mother would risk ruining her manicure AND causing visible damage to her pretty beloved ornaments when she can easily manipulate them into compliance? that’s the way i see it

as for the second point…………yeah, i think you guys should know by now how much it bugs me when people assume things about my portrayal and try to push bad fanon onto me. i just find that disrespectful. weirdly my issue with the level of self-projection you’re talking about though actually tends to be more misconceptions about Gladion and Lillie’s characters…there’s been a lot of cases of people projecting their own dislike of Lusamine onto the way they write Gladion and Lillie so much that Gladion and Lillie’s character depth ends up suffering for it imo :(
