It's not like I wanted to kill em!
He'd wanted to shout, but his lips remained tightly shut, words locked in his throat and hanging on the tip of his tongue, anxiously. And he was glaring at her, but it was weak from resolve. She was right, absolutely. And he hated that he couldn't really fight back with a decent, justifiable argument.
Didn't he want to kill them though? Even that, he couldn't but doubt.
So instead of putting up excuses about how he was ordered to do it, or how he'd dreaded every second of it, he crossed both arms over his chest and put up now a more honest scowl. This time, it was because he did want to feel it was warranted. Because he wanted to believe it was all justified, even if he knew very well the opposite.
❝ —I know my list of corpses very well, Death.❞ His voice was low and slightly aggressive. He didn't even bother to use petnames. ❝ I like to believe my memory works just fine, enough to remember every and each kill in detail.❞ It was, perhaps, his way to pay respect to his victims; remember them.
He also knew that about half of them weren’t innocent, but guessed bringing that up was a lame attempt to excuse himself. Besides, he still did kill the half that did nothing to deserve it.
❝ I’m not the only god who kills as a job though, so why me? Why do you persist on loathing and bullying only me when there might be ‘bout a thousand others whose kill-list doubles mine?!❞
Not like he was trying the “if they can do why can’t I” fiasco, though. He knew very well that what he did was wrong. Sakura taught him that.
❝ --It’s not like can do anything else, anyway. I was created to kill, it’s the only thing I know how to do well. If ya ever find a way to change a kami’s nature, then do come scold me on all your right. Meanwhile, kindly get off my tail.❞
