There are a lot of things you really hope your puppy will get used to when you first bring them home. Firstly, their new home. Check. Second on my list included other dogs. Check and thirdly. The car. Check. We’ve been really lucky, she wasn't keen on the car until we got her a travel box, like the ones you stuff a cat into to take it to the vets. Until she had one of those she was awful in the car. In the box however, she’d just fall asleep and she’d be out within a few minutes! We did a lot of little journeys but basically just got on with life. Eventually she got upgraded to the hammock, in that she got belted in like a child and then would just fall asleep on her blanket. I was very keen for her to not ruin the car, I’ve heard so many horror stories of pooches eating seat belts, chewing through seats and throwing up. Hence the hammock.
Since we got rid of our car, we’ve been lucky enough to have the big Defender which has made life soooo much easier. We can put her smaller travel crate in the boot and not have to fuss around with seats, boot space or anything of that kind. Just a quick “in your bed” and she's in no fuss and sleeping. Good pooch!
She has become an ideal traveling four legged beasty, although she does sometimes whinge like a child but she soon calms down*
*After we’ve stopped to check she doesn't need to go to the toilet. When you gotta go, you gotta go. Even I can appreciate that one!
