The community center was nicer than the church they’d all hidden in following the raid. What brings that past to mind is he’s expecting to see many familiar faces from Jericho here. It’d be different than seeing them at Markus’ events or at the police station. Those were all business affairs. It’d be different still than seeing them at Markus’ house. Those were supposed to be pleasure affairs.
More intimate than it all was this –The Awakened Android Group. Connor thought that he did like the term awakened better than deviant. It held more truth and less negative a connotation.
What he never expected was to have to lead this sort of thing. The wires in his throat clenched nervously at the thought. Too many eyes on him or depending on his word always made him so nervous. Josh assured him it would be more moderating –as everyone would have a voice. But Connor would have to speak first.
He tried to calm his own nerves as he set up all of the metal chairs and tables in the basement of the community center. He constantly checked his own internal clock to make sure he’d know exactly when others might arrive.
19:45
There was still about fifteen minutes before anyone else would get there. He remembered the idea he’d had for refreshments and quickly placed the thirium bottles and plastic cups on top of the white table cloth.
He then ducked into the attacked bathroom to check his reflection. It wasn’t about vanity –but more he was trying to see if he looked enough like himself –Connor the deviant –that people wouldn’t see him as Connor the deviant hunter.
He hoped the new jacket’s soft leather and lack of identifiers helped that image. He was just examining his reflection further when he heard footsteps on the basement stairs. His circuits buzzed nervously as he realized someone was early.
