Mom has tonsil stones.
“I started sleeping in the guest room last December so I could stay up late and watch TV without disturbing your dad, and I was eating like a whole bag of Takis every night. I thought I was allergic to them because it felt like my throat was burning, like a sharp pain in my tonsils. Then during Christmas, Grandma made chicken soup and I thought I was allergic to something in there, too because it was the same feeling. You know that feeling of when you’re allergic to something and you get that sharp pain in your throat.”
No, I’m not allergic to anything.
“Ugh, well. It’s like that sharp feeling. And you know what tonsil stones feel like? [takes a moment to think] Have you ever gone so long without flossing a particular tooth and then when you finally floss it, you have a piece of hard plaque stuck to the floss and when you floss it goes ‘thoonk?’“
