This Silly Fucking Thing, Spookyland: Track Review

Spookyland’s latest single, This Silly Fucking Thing, has been doing the rounds on the internet and FBi radio for a while, but a new version by producer Tony Buchen has now been released. The reworked instrumentals lend another layer of tension to the track, as the delicate picking of guitar strings builds to a sprawling chorus.

With Dylan-esque vocals, Gordon infuses the song with a palpable yearning and a sense of intimacy, driven by slow, lamenting harmonica. The track feels like watching the closing scene of a film – there is a sense of catharsis when it is over, as if you too, have taken part in Gordon’s heartbreak. The EP, ‘Rock and Roll Weakling’, is out now from Monday Records, including 3 more tracks from the idiosyncratic Sydneysider.
