Mikan had to remind herself quite often to not pull the leaves off of the rose, that it was good enough now that it had been de-thorned. That ripping the leaves from the poor plant would probably make it die quicker, detract from its beauty. Who would want a flower that had been mutilated? 

But by that logic…wouldn’t it have been even more beautiful if she hadn’t gotten rid of the thorns? 

She shook her head slightly, trying to assemble her thoughts. She was so nervous, so very nervous. It was embarrassing how badly she was shaking over something as simple as giving someone a flower. 

She was pathetic, wasn’t she? 

Thinking that the person that was going to receive it would actually want something that had been touched by someone like her. As soon as her fingertips had gently caressed the petals it was ruined. Her touch alone was like a plague. No one would ever want something from her. 

But…here she was…walking quickly down the halls, searching for him. 

Her footsteps were light and quick, and as the minutes ticked by she feared she wouldn’t find him. That it was too late. That they had already gone. 

She should have done it sooner. 

No. 

She shouldn’t do this at all. She should turn back before she embarrassed herself. 

Maybe if she was lucky he would pity her enough to take it. To at least only make fun of her behind her back. 

She paused as she spotted him, “O-Oowada-san…!” She called out, her heart felt like it was going to burst in her chest, and she could feel her face burning. She waited a few moments before she approached him, trying to collect herself. “I-I….I-I’m s-sorry to b-bother you but….but I….” She closed her eyes tightly and held the crimson flower out towards him, “T-this i-is f-for you…. I-if you….if you do not w-want it….I u-understand…”
