A piece I made in collaboration with my bestie/roomie @shesellsceeshells (the writer of this amazing poem) for Cinnamon Coffee - A Monika x Sayori Fanzine. It's full out and free!

Originally I only made the illustration, but recently I decided make my own take on the layout! I landed on a notebook design; it was really fun to make!

How about, Sayori and Monika going on a cute with each other to the carnival?

Sayori begs Monika to go with her, since she hasn’t really been since she was a little kid and she thinks she can have fun there

Monika happily agrees, she would do anything for Sayori to be happy and carefree, even for just moments at a time

When they go, Sayori wants to just get the normal tickets, but Monika buys them the VIP ones that let them skip lines and ride whatever they want

Sayori leads them, going on all the fun rides, and they spend about twenty minutes riding one over and over again because it’s so fast and dizzying and thrilling and Sayori loves it and Monika loves Sayori

(She will do it... do it for Sayori... even though her head is starting to hurt...)

After Sayori gets a little bored of doing the fast rides, Monika tells her to wait right there, she’ll be right back!

Sayori leans against the rail around their latest ride, lowering her head for a moment to reflect on their day so far, and how grateful she is to Monika for doing this with her. She makes a note to thank Monika again when she gets back.

...but when Monika comes back, she has funnel cake and pink lemonade and Sayori forgets what she was just thinking about

She helps her carry it and they sit down in the lawn in front of the live band that’s playing old school rock and country songs, and Sayori leans her head on Monika’s shoulder, happily munching funnel cake and occasionally leaning down to sip the lemonade Monika is holding

By the time they’re finished eating, the sun is starting to set, and the band announces that they’ll be leaving and the carnival will shut down for the night in about thirty minutes

Monika stands up and stretches, asking Sayori if she’s ready to go home

Sayori pouts and exclaims that there’s one more ride they need to go on! The ferris wheel!

Monika grins and takes Sayori’s hand, and they meander over to it, cutting through the line and getting on the next cart that comes down.

They’re quiet as they ride up, just basking in each other’s presence and the atmosphere of the carnival

Sayori breaks the silence, seriously thanking Monika for everything she does for her, how she doesn’t know where she’d be without her, and that Monika is the best thing to ever happen to her

Monika only responds with a kiss as they reach the highest part of the wheel, soft and sweet
