Time for some Doki Doki headcanons!

Today we have Yuri

There's no topic, just something that randomly popped in my head

Yuri always seems too quiet for the room she’s in. Even when people around her are loud — laughing, arguing, filling the space with noise — she exists as if half a tone lower than everyone else. She doesn’t disappear, no she simply shifts. Like the shadow of a bookcase you only notice if you deliberately look for it. She doesn’t like being the center of attention, yet sometimes she catches herself on a strange thought: if she were gone, would anyone notice right away — or only a couple of days later, when someone realizes the pages in the corner no longer rustle?

She doesn’t read for the plot. The plot is just an excuse. The real value of a book for her lies in the pauses: in what’s left unsaid, in the heavy air between the lines, in the feeling that the author understands something important and frightening but doesn’t dare to say it outright. Yuri loves books that press down on you. Books that leave you with the sense that you’ve looked into someone else’s mind and seen too much. Sometimes it seems to her that such books are the only ones that speak to her honestly.

Her love of knives isn’t about violence or threat. It’s almost meditative. Yuri is fascinated by balance: the cold of the metal, the precision of the form, the feeling of control over something perfectly simple. A knife doesn’t lie. It’s either sharp or it isn’t. It either rests steadily in your hand or it doesn’t. In a world where emotions blur and spill over, that sense of clarity feels like salvation.

Yuri often blushes not because she’s shy around people, but because she’s afraid of being misunderstood. Every word is a risk for her. Too soft — and no one will hear it. Too sharp — and they’ll be frightened. She turns phrases over in her head for a long time before saying them out loud, and even then she keeps returning to the conversation again and again, mentally correcting intonations that can no longer be changed.

When Yuri becomes attached, she does so too deeply. Not gradually — but all at once, headfirst, as if diving into cold water without checking the depth. She doesn’t know how to love halfway. If someone becomes important to her, they take up a lot of space in her thoughts — sometimes too much. And that scares her. She’s more afraid of her own intensity than of someone else’s coldness.

Her loneliness isn’t loud. It doesn’t demand attention, doesn’t sob uncontrollably. It’s quiet, viscous, like fog. Sometimes Yuri can spend an entire day among people and still feel isolated, as if there’s glass between her and everyone else. She sees emotions, hears words, but doesn’t always feel she has the right to be part of it.

Yuri senses other people’s boundaries well — perhaps because her own feel too blurred. She’s careful, polite, tries not to intrude. But inside her, chaos often rages: thoughts, anxieties, fantasies she shows no one. The contrast between her outer restraint and inner storm is what exhausts her the most.

Her poems aren’t an attempt to be liked. They’re a way to survive. When Yuri writes, it’s as if she carefully opens herself up from the inside, word by word, so the pressure eases just a little. She rarely rereads what she’s written. Shame mixes with relief, and she isn’t sure she’s ready to look again at the place those lines came from.

Yuri doesn’t consider herself a good person — and that may be one of her most painful thoughts. She knows her dark sides too well: obsessive ideas, impulses that frighten even her. And yet she genuinely wants to be gentle. She wants not to cause harm. She wants to be someone’s quiet, reliable presence, not a source of anxiety.

When Yuri feels acceptance — real, calm, without pressure — she blooms slowly, almost imperceptibly. She starts to speak a little more. To smile hesitantly, but sincerely. She shares books that mean too much to her. That’s her form of trust. And if someone treats it carelessly, she closes herself off for a long time.

Yuri doesn’t need drama. She needs someone who can withstand silence beside her. Someone who won’t demand that she be simpler, cheerier, more “normal.” Someone who understands that her complexity isn’t a pose or a whim, but a way of existing in a world she feels too sharply.

Sometimes it seems to her that she’s a character in a book everyone is reading the wrong way. And all she wants is for someone to finally read it to the end — without being frightened by the difficult chapters.

Some ddlc voice headcanons

Warning: this explanation is gonna sUCK sHIT cuz I have no idea how to describe voices

Monika

-has quite a monotone voice that expresses only small amounts of emotion most of the time. Unless she's very emotional, will mostly stay the same neutral tone with little bits feeling punctuating her lines

-As she got older during her debate club days, and some other social activities she learned to sound much more polite and friendly and inflect more. But when she was a kid it was even more monotone.

-she also learned how to project her voice around that time too. She always makes sure she projects quite loudly when socializing but when relaxed she sounds naturally much quieter

-Anyway, her voice hasn't been on to show much emotion from a young age, it's something she adopted very early on to conceal some emotions and now she doesn't know how to unlearn it

-It makes it harder for her to express her feelings and make people think she's genuine. She hates it because she feels like it doesn't match up with how she feels on the inside, on the inside she feels so much. She also wished she was better at expressing emotion for when she's singing, the songs she writes are always more emotional than she can sound on command

-as for pitch, her voice isn't too high or too low, somewhere in the middle. But her voice definitely sounds very much like her age in contrast to the rest of her demeanour which tries to seem older than she is. She hates that about her voice too.

-she definitely tries to make her voice sound a certain way and sound very clear when she's around people most of the time, to sound very confident

-the other girls are jealous of the fact that she never stutters on her words. Truth is she had a stutter when she was young, and when she's really emotional it comes out again

-she tends to let out a lot of little sound effects, like little whines or hums, it's a good way of expressing more emotion, but usually only when she's alone or around ppl she trusts cuz she finds it very embarrassing when it's pointed out. The habit got worse after spending time with Sayori, Sayori thinks it's so cute.

Sayori

-also around the middle of high and low. But when she's pretending to be happy her voice sounds a little bit higher, as for when she's being genuine it's sounds a little deeper

-has a slightly raspy voice. In the morning it especially sounds super husky. It's kinda nasaly too.

-doesn't really know how to control how loud or quiet she is very well, just whatever she instinctively feels like expressing is probably what will come out. Sometimes just accidentally yells way to loud out of nowhere. Then some days when she feels bad she can only lift her voice just above a whisper

-thinks her voice sounds ugly, but everyone else thinks it's sounds very cute and/or reassuring

-has such a comfy friendly tone, not the most expressive voice in the club but enough so that she always sounds very genuine no matter what she's saying, even if she doesn't feel totally genuine

-her tone gets a lot more stagnant on the days where she's low energy

-also tends to make a lot of sound effects, more so just a lot of verbal stims, like fixating on one word or sound for a week and using it like a coma, but in general just makes a lot of sounds

-stutters but not in a stuttering on her words nervous type of way but backtracking and switching her wordings around a lot when talking, often trial by fire figures out the right way to say something

Yuri

-has the most smooth soothing pretty voice you ever did hear, the type of voice you would want to read you a bedtime story, and she hates it for no reason other than pure self deprecation. The others let her know fairly regularly and she denies it every time.

-her voice is either quite devoid of emotion or hella emotional no in-between. She can switch between those two modes very suddenly, giving whiplash

-hates it when that happens, she always feels really embarrassed when some intense harshness or rushing excitement suddenly pops out from nowhere, she feels like she makes the conversation awkward when she does so

-talks very quiet normally just out of habit but can get really loud if the time calls for it, she can't get loud on command tho it has to happen naturally

-hates both of these things, hates not being able to speak up loud enough and not being heard but also wants to sink into the floor from shame after she gets loud

-stutters on her words so much as soon as she gets a little nervous, it makes her so frustrated because she wants to be as articulate as she is in her head. Loves it when she feels confident because she sounds so clear and smooth when she does

-Only makes little sound effects like little hums when she's in the middle of talking, if she's not talking she is completely and utterly silent, not a word, voice and sound she doesn't know them

Natsuki

-Higher pitched voice, but not in the super high pitched way in the nasaly type of way. Sounds kinda gremliny in a cute way, her voice is adorable

-Extremely expressive voice, even when she thinks she's hiding her emotions she never really can, there's almost always some kind of feeling there, it annoying to her. But the good thing about it is that it's so varied and unique it makes it very easy to always tell what she's feeling

-Naturally very loud, doesn't really know how to talk quietly, or ever sound quiet. She's so skilled at yelling

-even when she's alone she tends to make a lot of little remarks to herself out loud or at least just a grunt or scoff littered through her day to day life. Has tried really hard to squash that habit but it hasn't worked

-tends to put a lot of emphasis on certain words here and there by stressing or adding an extra vowel at the end of she wants to highlight it

-when she's very emotional, in a positive or negative way there tends to be a bit of a squeakiness to her voice or little voice cracks

-stutters a lot, but not necessarily in a nervous way she tends to just stutter on her words fairly often in general. Her toxic friends would make fun of her for it all the time and now she gets super defensive whenever anyone brings it up, she cringes a little every time she hears it

ive always thought of monika as an overachieving girlfailure

this is probably the most bland obvious common headcanon ever but i think monika is perfect grounds for an "i do as many academics and extracurriculars as possible" type of beast. the overworked kind of beast.

I don't know if you're still doing requests for DDLC, but can you do headcanons of the ddlc girls being the reader's neighbor? like, after their first day in the literature club, they find out they are neighbors when they get back home Also, sorry if you didn't understand my request, English is not my first language

No worries, anon! I understood your request perfectly fine :] I didn't add Sayori because... she's already neighbors with the reader in game. Hopefully I did alright here!

Being neighbors with Natsuki, Yuri, & Monika

Natsuki: She’d be… a little embarrassed in fear of you learning about her father. She tries to keep that a secret, though. If you get into an argument during the club, it’s very awkward if the two of you are going home at the same time after school. Natsuki won’t admit it, but she appreciates the company, especially when it’s time away from her dad.

Yuri: She's flustered she hadn’t realized you were neighbors sooner. She enjoys walking from school with you, feeling like she finally belongs somewhere (other than the club). She lets you borrow her books and you chat about them while walking. Given your neighbors, she’d want to hang out with you after school, but she prefers if you approach it to her first. It takes time for Yuri to get the courage to ask you to hang out, if it isn’t academic related.

Monika: She’s already aware you live near her. You were the first member to join the Literature Club, making you the vice president. She finds it hard in her busy schedule to walk with you every day after school, but tries to make time. She often runs club ideas by you first before it's official. She might stop by your house if she needs to gather supplies for the club so you can join her. Monika will take any opportunity she can to spend with you.

Monika was a Nyan Cat, "-Animation meme" and FNAF girl.

Sayori was a Vocaloid, Caramelldansen and Undertale girl.

Yuri was a Creepypasta, My Little Pony and Minecraft girl.

Natsuki was a Warrior Cats, Undertale and BATIM girl.

In a post-game AU where the girls get to live in the real world, I feel like Monika would have some odd habits carry over from the game.

-She never had a house or a bed, so she can fall asleep pretty much anywhere, no matter how uncomfortable.

-Because they were unnecessary in the game, she constantly forgets to do things like eat, drink, or sleep. She'll stumble into the kitchen half-starved at 5 in the morning because she forgot she's a human person.

-She never had blushing or crying sprites in the game. Because of this, she never learned how to control these things. She blushes and cries really easily without realizing. The other girls like to take advantage of the blushing part because all they have to do is hold her hand for a couple seconds and she turns into a tomato.

-Not really a habit, but I think she might have something like an audio processing disorder after reading everyone's speech for so long. She has to watch TV with subtitles on or she has no idea what's going on. She also startles herself when she speaks because she's not used to sound coming out. Or, when she's really tired, she'll just flap her lips at people because she forgets she has to actually make sounds for them to hear her. The upside is that she has a really fast reading speed.

-She hates elevators. In Act 3, whenever the game closed and Monika was sent into the void, the game unloaded a couple milliseconds before she did, which gave her this slight falling feeling before she suddenly stopped existing. The little jerk at the beginning and ends of elevator rides feels similar and it freaks her out.

-Because she only ever had one outfit, she forgets about changing a lot. So she ends up sleeping in her day clothes or forgetting to change out of pajamas before leaving the house. Once or twice she ended up showering clothed because she forgot clothes aren't a part of your body.
