From Huffington Post:
Remember Randall, the sassy narrator from the "Honey Badger Don't Care" video?
Well, he's back as the narrator of a new video, put out by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, that calls for an end to controversial baby monkey experiments at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The experiment by UW psychiatrist Ned Kalin, approved in April, calls for removing 20 newborn monkeys from their mothers and subjecting them to anxiety-inducing tests [such as introducing them to live snakes]. After just over a year, the monkeys will be euthanized so that their brains, along with those of 20 animals in a control group, can be studied with newly developed brain-imaging equipment.
I was one of 312,000 people who signed a petition addressed to the University of Wisconsin - Madison to stop this experiment. The response of the University oozes with arrogance and contempt. Read just this part (I added the bold and italic font):
Given the enthusiasm of NIH, the thorough consideration and approval granted by campus animal research committees, and the attention of trained veterinarians and animal care staff to ensure compliance with animal welfare laws, the research has the full support of the university. It is not open to any reevaluation other than the judgment of the researchers involved as they learn from their results."
Basically, the University of Wisconsin - Madison is telling us "Fuck you. We are an important institution with important people." (Oh, and PS you fucks, Northwestern beat you in football last Saturday, 20-14.)
