Day 1476, 8 July 2022
Last week we visited friends near Ross on Wye in Herefordshire. Among the things we did was visit Monmouth, the county town of Monmouthshire, a couple of miles over the border into Wales.
The reason for the visit, apart from pure tourist interest, was for me to see Monnow Bridge, and fascinating it was too. Briefly, built in the late 13th century, it’s the only remaining mediaeval fortified river bridge in Great Britain with its gate tower still standing in place.
Close by Monnow Bridge in Monnow Street is MonTeas, an interesting ‘purveyor of fine loose leaf teas and tea paraphernalia’. The proprietor, David Tovey is hugely knowledgeable about all things tea related. Just as interesting at the bridge.
