Saved this little guy from drowning in a puddle a couple weeks back. Didn't want to leave my hand afterwards either. I'm in northwestern Michigan if you'd like to id the friend.

Cute friend with nice antennae! It's a longhorn beetle in the genus Monochamus, commonly called sawyer beetles :)

@discount-nerd submitted: Found in southeast Georgia, these little guys keep coming into my room and squeak very angrily when I touch them to put them back out! They're lovely but they have no respect for my privacy and their mouth parts look like they can bite 😔

I LOVE the little squeaks longhorn beetles can make. Absolutely precious. They do have chewing mandibles, so they are capable of biting, but they don't really have reason to unless you're handling them roughly. And at worst it would just be a little pinch. Anyhoo this pal looks like possible a Carolina pine sawyer or another species in the same genus, Monochamus. The southern pine sawyer looks super similar.

Monochamus males have some of the longest “horns” of any Cerambycids here in the northwest. These antennae are used to “smell” for females and are often more than twice their body length.
