If you want to win Monopoly, you don't buy Boardwalk
Alright. So my brother plays Monopoly a LOT. It’s his favorite board game. So when Metatron said he always puts a hotel on Boardwalk and he always wins my brother started laughing. ”That’s not how you win Monopoly,” he said. That’s THE WORST strategy you can possibly have. ”You want to know how you win?” he said. ”You buy up everything on red and yellow.” Now. My brother doesn’t read my meta so he didn’t piece together that these colors for “winning” are part of our late season combo colors. They were all throughout the episode, from the bowling alley to the disco lights in Castiel’s “fake Heaven”. Metatron has basically discarded yellow and red (giving them to Cas) and so he’s going to lose…
"The point is, while everyone else is playing Checkers, I’m playing Monopoly and I always build a hotel on Boardwalk… and I always win.”
Checkers is a game of strategy while Monopoly is one part chance and one part strategy. There is a grand total of one “Chance” card out of 16 in the orange card pile that will send you to Boardwalk, and Monopoly is made up of 40 squares, 28 of which are “properties”, meaning the odds are VERY LOW that you’re gonna land on this property space and/or draw said “Chance” card. The real trick is to buy up all the red and yellow properties since they represent the highest revenue to landing odds ratio. After all, the name of the game is “Monopoly”, as in you want a monopoly of property in order to eliminate your opponents.
There are SEVERAL “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards which will take you to “Jail”, “St. Charles Place”, “Illinois Avenue”, and/or “Go”, thereby forcing you to revisit this deeded road of rent and taxation hell on a much more frequent basis. Who cares about Boardwalk if you land on red or yellow with 3-4 houses every go around? Which you will most likely do, statistically speaking (with 6 property squares and over 10 “skip Boardwalk” cards versus one square with one card). As if the Death Star reference wasn’t overt enough… There’s no way Metatron is winning this game. There’s a “flaw” in his system. A flaw that is about 2 meters wide with the power of love (of “humanity”) on approach. There’s a reason Metatron isn’t playing Checkers and must instead play a game that relies on an element of chance, It’s because he sucks at strategy. Not easy to knock all the bowling pins down on skill alone, is it?
