The Artist in Residence series for Joyful Noise Recordings this year features Yonatan Gat, who has seen his fair share of mentions over the years. There are five artists in the series - Yonatan Gat's American Quartet, Medicine Singers, Maalem Hassan BenJaafar, Mamady Kouyaté, and Monotonix (originally from Tel Aviv, Israel).
I'd obviously never listened to Monotonix. If I had they certainly would have garnered several posts and mentions. This is punk in the vein of Sonic Youth crossed with The Stooges. They have a couple of releases on Drag City, but haven't released new music in 12 years. Yonatan Gat is a member of the band, but this music is much more raw and energetic than his solo or collaborative work.
Yonatan Gat seems to now be based in New York.
