Ok, my dudes, however old you are and whatever be the content that you expected from this show, you have to accept the fact that VLD is primarily a 'children's show'. I understand that we want to see more in depth emotional things, but kids wanna see giant space lions. Also, most of you are being very inconsiderate of Shiro's mental health. He was not in a good place (evident from his sarcastic comment to Lance) . Also, he may have needed more time to get adjusted to his body, which, frankly, I would not have enjoyed as a kid. All I am saying is that let's all be chill and hope to see what we want to see in the next season!
So first I want to address the part I bolded.
Maybe next time try to extend your consideration towards the actual real people you’re interacting with online. Like, consider that maybe you’re addressing people with similar mental health problems as Shiro. Consider that mentally ill fans of the show, and this includes kids, would like to see the character they relate to be treated better by the narrative. Including such simple things as addressing his own thoughts and feelings about his situation, instead of being demoted to being in the background with less lines and plot participation than actual minor characters. Ok? Ok.
“He’s just in deep thought” is the legit excuse people are giving to the very valid criticism of a main character being sidelined for 8 episodes. Come on.
“It’s for kids” is a flimsy excuse to counter criticism of a piece of media. Something having children as its core audience doesn’t excuse poor writing, and such a dismissive ‘it’s just for kids’ attitude actually ends up being patronizing and dismissive towards children themselves, as you’re implying they are not smart enough to want or appreciate anything beyond mindless robot space battles, all of the staff involved in the show including the creators, as you’re saying they didn’t actually put any effort into it since it’s just for kids, all of the many teen and adult fans of the show, and the show itself.
Voltron has never been a mindless space robots show. Emotional depth has been present since episode 1, and so have some pretty serious topics and themes such as genocide.
Mental and physical torture.
The entire “The Journey” episode.
The entire “The Black Paladins” episode.
Amongst many other things.
So I don’t know, I think the kids who have been up for this can handle a few scenes and lines of Shiro talking about his feelings with someone. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before.
