Chapter excerpt:

There was a momentary silence before Tom finished with, “You lived. Your parents are dead. They were killed by a dark wizard and there is nothing you can do to change history or bring them back. They aren’t coming to save you. Accept it and move on. Waiting for a guardian that will never come will only destroy you in the long run.” Tom said it all like it was simple. Nothing more than facts. Like it wasn’t causing Harry’s throat to close and his eyes to burn. It was the first time someone had described Voldemort and the events of that night so emotionlessly. He said it all like it wasn’t Harry’s life, but a story from a history book. Like Harry needed to know his parents weren’t coming back for him, as if Harry didn’t know that already. Harry didn’t want to hear that. He hated it, and not for the first time, he found himself hating Tom a bit too.

Chapter excerpt:

Every word Harry and the redhead traded on the way down to the hut would have been physically painful if Tom had had a body to feel the idiocy with. If he had ever thought Harry was lacking in wit when conversing with him, it was nothing in comparison with when he was talking to the orange weasel. Harry was by no means on Tom’s level in terms of knowledge, power, or intellect, but he was a rather good conversational partner. At least, as good as an eleven year old Gryffindor could be. But when the boy spoke to what most would consider his ‘peers’ he lost all of his sharp words and even his occasional clever insights. Perhaps the clever side of Harry was stored in a special place in the boy's mind, reserved only for dealing with Tom.

Chapter excerpt:

It was important for Harry to accept that no matter how complicated Tom was, he was still a total prat.“Fine, yes, let's start. What book shall we start with, Your Highness?” Harry’s snark seemed to have the opposite effect he was hoping for. Instead of feeling chastised, Harry could feel that Tom took a certain measure of pride and glee in being called “Your Highness.” Because of course he did. “Let's start with Powerful Possessions, my humble servant.” Ugh. Harry took back every nice thing he ever thought about Tom. “I am not your servant!” Harry angrily murmured under his breath. He grabbed the thick volume Tom said they should start with, and was struck by the powerful desire to hit the boy with it. Unfortunately, that would mean hitting himself. So, his continuous resolution to hit Tom with something would have to be delayed, once again. “Aww, come now. You called me Your Highness, does that not mean you wish to serve me?” Tom gloated. Harry internally vowed to hit Tom as soon as they were separated.

Chapter excerpt:

Harry took on an angry tone that was likely meant to be a warning. Tom did not care. It was decided. He would kill Harry. And he would make sure it hurt. He would make Harry scream, and cry, and beg, on his knees kneeling before Tom. He thought Tom was emotional? Tom would show him who was emotional. He wondered how far he would have to push Harry to get his mind to shatter. Would Hare think him emotional when the boy was tied up and forced to feel the Cruciatus curse flow through his body as Tom forced Harry’s mind to replay his worst memories? Would he cry for his mother? Or would he be begging for food and crying to be let out of his cupboard? Tom would find out.
