Their stories always end the same way.
The child runs off to the magical land, and finds wonders beyond imagining, but they always come back home. The girl is turned into a beast, but secretly she longs for her human form. The wix gains the ability to speak with the animals, but xe has to give it up in the end.
What are they so afraid of, that they won't give us the ending we're all longing to hear? Are they afraid that if they don't remind us constantly of how nice and safe and right it is to be human, to be normal, we'll start to chafe in our confines? That one day, we'll find the way to run away and never come back?
Are they so scared that they lack power over us that they won't even let us have stories?
