#monthly tree

I think this is going to be this year's tree: a dogwood, a slightly farther walk than I usually do. My old neighborhood had a lot of dogwoods, this one not so much, so I think it'll be nice to make a point of checking it out regularly:

Thanks @bookshelfdreams for the idea, I'm not much of a resolutions person, but I like this a lot.

For those who don't know, my very first tattoo is a dogwood branch with three blossoms and the word "trust", Ryn and I got matching tattoos in October 2019. It's something from our fanfiction collabs that we never actually got to write, but we knew it would happen, and I was going to be visiting them, and they had a tattoo artist they liked, etc etc. There's a photo at the end of our last (unfinished) fic.

I missed March, because I was on vacation, and then I kept forgetting to post April, and then today I realized both that I never took pictures last weekend, and that actually it had been so long since I'd walked this direction that I might be about to miss the blooms entirely. So, finally, monthly tree almost two and a half months late

Went out for a walk and realized once again that I've gotten into the month (at least it's only the 6th this time?) and forgot to go take photos of this year's tree.

And then realized I'm not excited about it the way I was last year, and what I really want to do is take pictures of the tiny little street tree that the city planted by my house last year.

Which is tricky to do without accidentally doxxing myself, so it will be Extreme Close-ups from here on out. But then that's my usual photography style anyway.

I believe this is a Japanese hornbeam, if I remember what I looked up before. There are quite a few in this neighborhood and they are lovely.

Yup, I was right last month when I said I'd just barely caught the blooms on this dogwood. It's still beautiful tho

Not a lot of difference between January and February tbh, which is to be expected and also feels of a piece with everything else

Today is gloomy and trying to rain during my usual walk window, so enjoy the monthly tree in yesterday's glorious weather:

Absolutely bare now, set for the winter. Which means I have now done 12 months of photographing this one gorgeous tree. Huh. Have not yet decided if/how I'm going to do this next year. I'm thinking I might try to do a post with the whole year's worth, if tumblr isn't too stupid about it. In any case, thank you @bookshelfdreams for the idea, it's been a nice check-in point over this sometimes very difficult year.

I think there might be more birds in the one I took today, but it's hard to tell

This is probably the most dramatic tree in my immediate vicinity, and it is on one of my regular afternoon walk loops.
